Max Emfinger called me a week ago. Said he was going to have an All-American High School Game. It's called the Max Emfinger's All-American Bowl Game. Based on his reputation as a talented high school recruiter, I agreed to help.

I would help him with media, marketing, create program, get practice facilities for the teams, get transportation from hotel to practice facilities and game, hire photographer and announcer.

Upon his arrival, he gave me the first check for $1,000. He said to hold it for two days. The next day, he told me to hold it for two more days. Two days later, he told me the check wasn't any good. Instead, he would give me $250 cash. I said that would be okay, for now. He arrives at my business and gives me $50.

On Monday, the consultant who I used to get a bus to transport the high school football players around informs me he has not heard from Max. This was the first of many complaints of him "disappearing."

By Tuesday at 9am, the program was supposed to go to the printer. On Tuesday at 4:30am, he sent me 20 of the 85 profiles. The program never went to the printer. I had to cancel the print job.

On Wednesday, an upset parent asked why I wasn't doing the program. I explained. He offered to pay for it with some help from other parents. Max was not involved until he refused to give the parent the ads necessary to finish the program. The layout was complete and ready to go with the exception of the missing ads. Max, once again, disappeared.

As of Thursday, he has not returned any phone calls and not paid me any more toward the $4,500 he owes me.

Through the course of the week, I've heard from local business people how this is happened to them during this past week. I've also learned from coaches who have worked with him at past games that this is an all-too-common theme. Max gets work done, but never pays for it.

This man must be stopped and soon. He preys on the parents of talented high school football who step up and pay for bills when he can't. Then he never pays them or anyone who has worked hard and earned the money. And he does it every year because he moves his game to a new location and gets new blood. It's a shame and sham!

Update on January 10, 2010

AUTHOR: bigtex - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, January 10, 2010

I receive another mystery phone call today from the one and only Max Emfinger. After days of not returning my calls, he decides to call after the game is done and they are conveniently headed out of town. He called, or kind of called.

I answer the phone, he speaks a hundred miles an hour, then hangs up. I understood that my computer monitor that I let him borrow would be at the front desk of the hotel, and they made enough money to cover the $1,000 check he wrote out to me but I was unable to cash previously. Still, after all my dealings with him, I wanted to make sure I heard everything correctly.

I called back unsuccessfully two times. On the third call, his wife picked up. He was "not available." I asked her to please clarify what Max had just told me.

She said my computer monitor would be waiting at the front desk. They did make enough money at the game to cover the $1,000 check he gave me last Sunday and repeatedly told me not to cash, but they would be putting a stop payment on it tomorrow because I posted my original complaint, right here on the Ripoff Report.

I have to say, it made me smile. What an excuse! I wouldn't be getting paid because I posted the truth on these pages. Or, maybe it was they didn't or wouldn't ever have sufficient funds in that account to cover the check????

Interestingly enough, I know for a fact that Max and his lovely wife didn't make enough money from the game to cover my expenses because I talked to two different individuals who got paid after the game last night. The total revenue from gate receipts from the game was just over $3,500. The amount of money Max owed to them was more than $3,000. I don't think with those numbers Max and his lovely wife could squeeze out $1,000 to my business even using their fuzzy math.

So Max, and your lovely wife, who I'm sure will be reading this update in short time, thanks for the offer of paying me, even though we both know you never intended on doing so.

Have a safe trip back to Louisiana and know the legal system will be contacting you soon.
