I read another report on the LA Comedy Awards and it made me feel inclined to have to chime in. The whole awards like the other person said is a giant scam.

There is NO real awards. You have to purchase your awards. Max Worthington calls is 'sponsorship', but in fact he gives the awards to EVERYONE. Ask people around hollywood and they've all been given this stupid xeroxed award in a dime store frame and told they've been nominated. Then once the awards come around you're told if you want to participate you have to pay $$$. He keeps changing the terms in which you have to pay to sound more like it's real and sponsorship, but it's simply not.

He takes advantage of up and coming comedians looking for a break with promises of glory and a big awards shows. Most of his shows are 'bringer' shows at bars, and if you bring people, you get nominated and get to perform.

The other person was right. The big stars names that he attaches to the awards have NOTHING to do with the awards and just happen to be around when he had a camera and an award in his trunk of his car to give them for photo opp.

STAY AWAY from this awards. It's a joke. And so is he. And again, i agree, very very very wrong for taking advantage of new comedians trying to get a break.

LA Comedy Awards; Celebrating the greats!

AUTHOR: Rich - (United States of America)

For those who do not know or do not understand how the business of awards show recognition works, here is a brief explanation of how the Academy Awards, Grammy Awards and the Los Angeles Comedy Awards select their nominees and then involve them in their awards process.

THE OSCARS:
To be considered for an Academy Award or Oscar, a film maker, director, producer or actor must first submit their project with an attached label stating: For Your Consideration. The initial fee for this first step in the Academy Awards process is $400. Over 20,000 people submit their material for Oscar consideration every year. Only about 200 will win a coveted nomination.

If a CONSIDERATION actually wins a nomination, the production company is given the opportunity to purchase 2 to 4 tickets to attend the event. Tickets to this event and its preceding press events costs thousands of dollars for the Oscar nominees. Whether they receive and Oscar or not, they still have to pay a lot for their participation in the events. If they utilize their Oscar nomination correctly, they can turn it into box office success for their project. Ultimately, it is up to the honoree to make the most of their recognition.

THE GRAMMY'S:
First, any artist who is going to be considered for FIRST BALLOT NOMINATION CONSIDERATION, they must first meet a massive amount of qualifying criteria. The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS) has a fee of $175 per song submission, or $350 for an album submission. Voting on nominees is done by members who pay $165 per year as a voting member of NARAS. There are about 15,000 voting members who cast ballots every year.

If a nominee, recipient or voting member wishes to attend the Grammy event at Staples Center, they can purchase tickets through their own involvement with NARAS. Tickets in the first ten rows with the star acts sitting in that section start at $10,000 per seat. Anything in the lower bowl loge section of Staples Center average about $1,000 per seat. A seat in the last row of the rafters will average about $150.

Like an Oscar winner or nominee, if a music artist has a good marketing sensibility about their career ambitions, they can do quite well in the commercial marketplace with this kind of recognition. They just have to do a strong publicity campaign to let the world know about their achievements.

THE LOS ANGELES COMEDY AWARDS: The Los Angeles Comedy Awards was the first program of its kind created for the ever expanding independent market. If a performer would like to submit their material for consideration of a nomination in this program, they are asked to go to http://www.LAComedyAwards.com and pay a $9.00 baseline submission fee. LA Comedy Awards producers evaluate the material, they will either send a rejection letter, which happens about 90% of the time, or they will contact the artist to inform them of a nomination OFFER.

The offer that is made does require that the potential nominee actively participate in the high profile press events held during the year. That means that they must attend each event in person. Only at the initial press event in June are they asked to purchase tickets. Each of two subsequent events the performers receives TWO complimentary tickets to attend. Purchasing additional tickets friends and fans is optional.

It IS NOT mandatory. If a nominee would like to perform at any of the LA Comedy Awards Press Events, they are asked to find a suitable SEGMENT sponsor.  LA Comedy Awards publicity and marketing department will assist them with service or product promotion on behalf of the sponsored act.

Like the mainstream awards programs, recognition in the PRESS can assist any aspiring public figure or celebrity to gain a competitive advantage in the commercial marketplace.

Recognition is what Hollywood is all about.

AUTHOR: Big al - (U.S.A.)

I am continually blown away by how ignorant aspiring entertainers can be. The only thing that matters in this business is getting exposure for your work. The LA Comedy Awards is the ONLY COMEDY AWARDS program in LA. Yet, the very people it was created to benefit attack it. Unbelievable!

I was a part of the event in 2012 at The Laugh Factory in West Hollywood last March. It was a blast. The level of talent at that event some of the best in Hollywood comedic history. There was a red carpet with 17 international media members covering it. Every recipient got their award on stage and the event also unveiled the presentation of the new Comedy Walk of Legends that will be placed in front of the Laugh Factory.

This publicity opportunity is unrivaled. It represents a chance for aspiring comics to get in front of the movers and shakers of the national comedy circuit. Anyone who accuses an awards show of being a scam is completely ignorant of the fact that the driving force behind the entertainment business is RECOGNITION for your creative endeavors. The LA Comedy Awards is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who aspires to succeed in the field of comedy.

I was scammed lol

AUTHOR: hoppity pop - (USA)

How was I scammedf? I optioned a web series script for television and made great new inroads into Hollywood. All because I was offered a nomination and bought and sold pre sale tickets for me and my friends. I got my party of ten comped into the big year end event, got a gift bag, and an LA Comedy Award. I was not scammed, I got million dollars publicity and marketing tools for a fraction of a percent.

And best of all my close friends and I were able to walk on a red carpet in Hollywood with the search lights going in the sky and everything AMAZING experience for me coming from the mid west. I had my pictures taken by getty images, and wire image, interviewed on the red carpet with my Award, there were news media there from all over the world. So awesome I can't explain. I got to see Dane Cook Dom Irera, Kevin Nealon there. Big scam my ass. And I even got huge news write ups in my hometown newspaper which was the icing on the cake.
