I have Maytag Model Number MSD2556AEW. Side by Side. On August 20th it leaked water on my Cherry Hardwood Floors, leaked water in my finished basement and family room. So far the early damage reaports are $5,000 and counting. Purchased (04/19/99) The solenoid that controls the water dispenser was triggered by a faulty command (suspect the electronic pad) and dispensed water all morning. The solenoid was tested today and it was determined that it burned itself out.

I called Maytag today looking for some kind of relief. It is their policy that if it is out of warranty thay will not offer any kind of consideration for helping. Bear in mind I am looking at a $340-$400 repair for the appliance, $500 home owner deductable plus any other expenses. Maytag would not even consider sending me parts at a reduced cost. The young man said "it is out of warranty". What a sad day for Maytag that they would not offer any help to any of the posters. The customer service representive said there is no way that Maytag will help in reagrds to my problem.

I asked him why would not Maytag be willing to help me with the parts cost of approximately $250-$300 when in the big picture the cost is ten times that!. He never answered the question! It is a culture that Maytag teaches it's customer service reps, if it is out of warranty, do not offer to help.

Go Out of Business John

AUTHOR: Louis - (U.S.A.)

Hey John, maybe they ought to go out of business if they can't produce a better product! I agree totally with Brian. Do you suppose if they had to fix his damage and all the others their defective products caused, they'd make them better? I'll bet in a New York minute!

Whatever happened to Maytag? I have a washer and dryer 24 years old NEITHER of which EVER had a service call. Both are now malfunctioning, but this is the kind of service life I expect. I'm so glad I read ripoff report before running right out and buying another Maytag!

Seems unfortunately Maytag has now learned to build a short period of obsolescence into its machines. My 80 year old father always says "they don't build them like they used to." I never thought I'd be saying that about a Maytag! Looks like that idle service guy in their commercials suddenly got real busy. Guess I got some competitive brand shopping to do!

How to get satisfaction

AUTHOR: Charlene - (U.S.A.)

I am an x-employee of Maytag (left for personal reasons). Maytag has a customer service department (1-800-688-9900)which can issue a concession (their word for it) for the repair and sometimes even for any damages you incurred whether the product is under warranty or not. Maytag's primary policy is "keep the customer happy." The key to getting anywhere at Maytag is persistance. If one rep doesn't get it, call back and don't be afraid to ask for a supervisor. Always get the reps first name and customer care #. They do not give out last names. Most reps do not respond well to anger. Usually you get there quicker if you are upset by continue trying to assure them you are trying to stay calm but that it is very upsetting to you. Remember that one out of every 5 to 10 calls they take are people who are angry. It wears on you after awhile. I'm not certain whether they are having trouble with that particular part right now, but if you're repairman tells you they are, use that. They can concession your repair. Hey, I've even known them to concession a new appliance to replace one that is out of warranty.

Never Hurts To Ask

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

It never hurts to ask but you kind of lost me when you went on about the $400 repair and the $500 ins. deductible and lose the $5000 cherry hardwood floor part. Several kids with mouths to feed might work better.

Looking for help

AUTHOR: Brian - (U.S.A.)

If companies like Maytag gave in to people like you they would put themselves out of business. If they fixed every appliance that had problems after the warranty ran out

You expect them to help you and they don't know the circumstances. There are a lot of things beyond their control tha t can happen the these appliances. How so they know that you didn't abuse it to cause the problems yourself?

It sounds loke you insurance is covering the bulk of your damages anuway so don't try to ripoff maytag when you arte probably the cause of the problem yourself.

John,
I appreciate your comments. However upon further research I have found that this model number MSD2556AEW from Maytag has had many similiar water leaks. I was not asking Maytag to pay for all damages, I realize that would of been out of line. However when I have had other "beyond warranty" issues with most other companies that have stepped up to the plate and offered some sort of help. I found Maytags ridgid warranty enforcement sad. All I wanted was some sort of price break consideration for the needed replacement parts. I realize that there are customers who want to work the system, I was not! I felt that Maytag could of been a kind corporate citizen and help out a consumer who suffered an big finaiical loss. I was looking for a kind gesture.
