This is not mistaking the sales tax with take out tax, but an actual 10% extra tax.

I go shop at this McDonald about once a month, and just notice this odd thing yesterday - they start charging 10% eat-out tax AFTER 10% sales tax:

I bought a 2.99 happy meal, adding 10% sales tax is usually 3.28, but now it becomes 3.57 because they are adding another 10% on top of sales tax.

I am visiting another one today and we will see if it is a new thingy with all the McDonalds or just this one.

Take-out tax...

AUTHOR: Edgeman - (U.S.A.)

On my receipts from McDonald's, the take-out tax is the same thing as the sales tax. California law says that hot, prepared food is taxable if most of the merchant's sales are from food and beverages that can be eaten on the premises. Customers are also charged a tax if they eat in, it just isn't called a "take-out" tax.

If you were truly double-taxed, you should be able to get a refund on one of those taxes. The puzzling thing is the claim that the restaurant added 10% sales tax. It isn't that high, even in that part of California.

Questions..

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

Is there a Separate Line for each of the two taxes?

Perhaps you could put the details of the receipt

Sub-Total Amount
Tax Take-Out Tax Description Amount
Tax Sales Tax Description Amount
Total Due Amount

If what you are saying is true, where you were not overcharged for the actual meal, and had about a 20% tax rate it would be interesting to see their justification/reason.
