If you are a single mom trying to support your kids,do not go to McDonalds for a job,especially if you're dependable, willing to work over,work days off and are over 30. I have been employed by McDonalds for almost a year now,have 2 kids to support and bent over backwards for them at first. Was scheduled for 8 hour shifts with set days off at first but then very quickly ended up staying over for 10-11 hours total every day,with no breaks of any kind,for months in a row. Went in every time on days off when called because they were short handed.

After working so long and hard with no breaks,very few days off and no time with my kids,I was exhausted and sick of it and tried to quit. They wouldn't let me and promised to work harder at giving the breaks so badly needed and actually did start doing so after a month or so. Promised to be promoted to crew manager but never saw it happen. Then set days off were taken away,hours were cut from 40 scheduled to 11 due to "winter" business and benefits were then denied.

Dr.'s notes became unacceptable,free meals while working have been taken away,no review has been done and I still get the same pay rate as when hired yet new employees are getting $.50 an hour more to start. For being such a "family" oriented franchise towards their customers,they sure treat their employees with families as if they are not important. They do not care if you have a sick child that even daycare will not watch or the school sends home because if you call in or leave to care for that child,you are treated like a criminal and even threatened with dismissal.

In a small town,with todays economy,any job is a must but to be an employee who has been there longer than most of the others and treated so badly is going over the line. No breaks for a 10 hour shift is illegal not to mention dangerous but they do not care. Staying over and working on scheduled days off gets you nothing but being the first one called when others call off. Maybe if McDonalds found it harder to hire and keep employees or had labor laws enforced on them,they'd treat the people who keep their business open better. Unless you like being treated like a work mule,do not apply at McDonalds for a job if you need long term employment and are a single parent with younger kids!
