Attention, all Mcdonalds customers. This is probably happening at your local McDonalds as well.

McDonalds advertises, (on TV, billboards, etc.), their Sweet Tea for $1. BUT, if you order a meal with it, they JACK THE PRICE to $1.60. False advertising, plain & simple. YET, it is advertised on their menu board as $1.
I have contacted the BBB, and they have closed this since McDonalds corporate WILL NOT RESPOND. The only thing the employees say when questioned, is "We have to charge like that".

PLEASE people, check this out at your local McDonalds, and join the fight against this blatant fraud!!

#1 UPDATE Employee

Some interesting facts.

AUTHOR: Andrea - (U.S.A.)

My #1 comment is the $1 sweet tea was only a summer thing it does not last all year long for some stores which ones i cannot tell you.

#2 It is true that the meals are one price and individual items are another price.  not to mention taxes are different for different areas.  For instance some McDonald's have a tax for there $ menu with 6 or 7 cents. So technically it is not only a dollar and the employees or anyone who works for McDonald's have absolutely no say on that matter.. So please do not blame the employees for that.

#3 Some McDonald's do not sell the same things. Some are run by franchise owners and they are the ones who decide what we sell when we sell it. For example the Mc'chicken may be sold in another McDonald's but may not be sold in another. If you would like to see said Mc'chicken you may contact the franchise owner and ask them if they would consider putting that on the menu but it may or may not happen.

#4. McDonald's are not run by perfect robots... They are ran by humans and we all make mistakes. We have many rushes during the day and it can be hard to make sure every order goes out perfect.. So the next time they forget your Frys or make your burger wrong please do not come in yelling and being rude. Calmly ask us to remake the order and we will happily remake it for you.

I do hope this helps!

I don't think anyone is joining your fight

AUTHOR: Ryandc - (U.S.A.)

It does say Al A Cart. I know the economy is bad but if you spent a little more time working and less time fussing over .60 you could just pay it with no problems. Don't waste your time. And as fellow poster state it happens to be the breakdown of the pricing, your meal costs a certain amount and the reciept just breaks down the money throughout the items in the meal, sandwich, fries and drink. IDIOT

McDonald's did not rip you off. You ripped yourself off by being an uneducated consumer.

Read the fine print

AUTHOR: Friendlyfoe - (U.S.A.)

If you read under the picture it says ala carte. Which means that you can only purchase that item for that price by itself, not as part of the meal. It doesn't mean you can't get it, it just means that you pay regular price and receive the same size that comes with the meal.

#6 UPDATE EX-employee responds

What he said

AUTHOR: Justjasen - (U.S.A.)

If the sweet tea is ordered with a value meal it is a higher price: Here is why:

Let's say you want the #1 meal (Big Mac)..it costs (for example) $5.49.
What the system does is this:
$2.90 for the big mac
$1.69 for the medium DRINK
$.99 for the medium fries

It does not matter WHAT drink you get because the MEAL costs - $5.49

Unfortunately this is just the way ALL McDonalds systems work. If the employee tries to input the PROMOTIONAL $1 sweet tea it gives them an error. It is something to do with the software. Your best bet is to do as the other person said: Order your items seperately so you can get the PROMOTIONAL Large Sweet Tea for $1. Had you actually bothered to ask the employee or a manager on duty they would have told you this and redid your order to ring things up seperately.

What are you talking about?

AUTHOR: The_phantom_poster - (U.S.A.)

I order sweet tea at Mcdonalds for $1 all the time. I get charge $1.07 because of sales tax to be precise. Now if you order the drink as part of a combo the price IS different, just like everything else. Have you ever noticed that the price of a Large Fry, a Large Drink and McChicken all ordered individualy is different than the price if you order the numer 5 (or whatever number that combo is). Usualy the price on the combo is cheaper, but not always. If it's really THAT big of a deal to you...then just order your sandwich, your fries, and your drink all seperate, and then you'll get the $1 drink....It works exactly the same with the 42oz soda. A 42oz soda by itself is $.99....but if you order a meal...the LARGE sized soda...which is acutaly SMALLER is like $1.34.....they aren't being deceptive about anything...you just need to pay more attention....and stop being so petty
