In Calgary, Alberta where this incident takes place, there are a a specefic set of labour laws.
Now given the circumstances inherent to this problem for future reference make sure to get written documentation of changed shifts or holiday hours.
Also ensure that you file a labour board cklaim for your area and follow through if you feel you've been wronfully dismissed.
More often than not, you can also go to the McDonald's Head office in Calgary to appeal any decision made by a Restaurant Manager.
Also of interest is to ensure that you get EXACT reasons as to why you were fired, and to ensure that when that information is presented elsewhere IE: Your ROE or EI that the facts are correct or tehy may make it difficult to obtain employment references or gainful employment elsewhere.

Let the managers do the dirty work so don't hand us this bill crap that the job's belong to the employer, they have to have a reason to fire you. Also they just can't make up anything about you either.
Let the employers do all the work sense the job's belong to them.
