at its best!

So my Internet had been shut off and today I received a letter stating that I had illegally downloaded something. I have never illegally downloaded anything. They say this is the third time I have done this, which is not true, and then they have terminated my Internet Service. The other times I got letters from them as because they said I had illegally downloaded the movies "The Unborn" and "Case 39" when in fact I had watched them on Netflix. Legally. I do not know why they said I had illegally downloaded them.

I do not know what to do.

Would I be able to get my Internet Service hooked back up? And if it is terminated, why are they still forcing me to pay every month for my Internet when it is shut down?

Please help.

The 1st DMCA violation does not incur a penalty beyond a warning. A 2nd violation more than 7 days after the first violation will force your account to be suspended for the repeat violation. 2nd violation paperwork must be signed and returned to us in order to resume service. On the paperwork it does state a subsequent violation will require you to terminate internet service. After the third violation a disconnect order is placed and internet service is removed along with any monthly fees for the internet service.

If you were not a part of downloading/uploading the specified content your IP should never have gotten to the copyright holder in the first place, which allowed them to send to us documentation stating that there was a violation of their copyright. After the intitial violations we do request you check to make sure your router is secure. An unsecured wireless router is still under your responsibility to maintain the privacy and security on your internet service as you are liable for what happens on your connection.

You are welcome to obtain legal council to go over the paperwork with you and file a counter-claim with the copyright holder, but this would be between yourself and whomever is claiming you downloaded the illegal content(not Mediacom) which should be provided on the paperwork sent stating the details of the violation(s).
