I too, regretfully, was scammed by Fortis Institute (formally Medvance Institute) in Nashville, TN. The professional recruiters at this Institute of lower learning are more reminiscent of used car salesmen that recruit you with zeal and promise you the moon, however, in reality are simply watching the cash flow increase while the unsuspecting sheep, I mean students, are led to the slaughter. They preyed on my desire to further my education with half truths and outright lies concerning the "schools", and I use the term loosely, intention to educate and then place me in my chosen field of Information Technology & Biomedical Technology. This turns out to be some hybrid degree that was created by them, that seemingly, was only given the forethought necessary to qualify it as a major.
But beware, as soon as you sign your name on the dotted line, the honeymoons over. I took exactly four biomedical courses conducted by dis-interested, unqualified, inept temporary (see adjunct) instructors, who only seemed to be interested in collecting a check and carrying on the charade. In addition, to add insult to injury, the ITBT program was discontinued when the recruiters couldn't sign up enough additional suckers to make the program financially viable. The vast majority of the remainder of my courses were basically filler material with some IT courses sprinkled in to give the program some measure of validity.
After graduation, in 2011, the joke of a career center bombarded me with e-mail "leads" for 10 dollar an hour help desk positions, as well as Biomedical positions that required years of previous experience. This is pretty much the extent of their "career placement". No internship, no externship, just a few positions forwarded from Career Builder and Craig's List. The joke of it all is that you won't even be qualified to actually perform the HELP DESK positions, unless you have received some other formal training prior to attending this money making, clown college
Trust me, do your research and when you see Fortis Institute, run.............don't walk!
