In June of 2009 I was working 11-7 PM @ St. Mary's North. Could not stay awake and my doctor sent me for a sleep study at the facilities Sleep Center. I was sent back to work on Medication. I was told that I had to see the employ health nurse before I could go back to work after I had already worked one night. She stated that she would have to terminate me because I had a disability. I told her that I would call EEOC so they found work for me. I also have diabetes and diabetic Neurapathy in both feet and legs and and high blood pressure. They finally found me part time work but I was harrassed the whole time. I was written up for computer use and phone use. They had tried for a year to get rid of me finally on Aug.23rd they fired me on false charges. I am 61 years old and very disabled and they don't want anyone with a disability working for them, they want perfection. I am a Cardiac Tech and could not leave my station without someone to cover me. I never got a lunch break, I ate my meals at my desk and worked at the same time. Mercy Health does not care about their employees, they expect them to work without breaks and are always understaffed. They claimed that I was fired because I was on the phone crying and yelling. I was talking to my son who can and will verify that I was not yelling. Yes, I was crying because my heat pump had gone out and had lived all last winter with no heat and this summer with no A/C. They have no mercy on their employees and they work understaffed at all times. I had the Family Leave Act in place but was still warned at one time about being absent because I had Asthmatic Bronchitis. They have a manager who needs to be replaced. There is favortism and nepotism going on there. The nurse manager created a job for her best friend who works there. Now I have to go back through EEOC for retaliation and may have to fight them for my unemployment. It is not a good place to work. I worked for Baptist Hospital of East TN until they merged with St. Marys. I had 11 years tenure with them but it didn't matter that I would go in and cover a shift when they had no one to do it or that even during snow, whenever everyone else called in I went anyway and I live way out in the country where it is difficult to travel. I would not recomend that anyone work for this comp. They are prejudiced against the handicapped.
