I purchased an i320 Scanmaker with a rebate of $20.00.

I sent in my rebate according to the terms of the rebate, but the company states: We apologize for the misunderstanding, but your rebate is invalid because your rebate submission was not postmarked before the promotion deadline.

This is untrue. They just don't want to pay.
