I have been a Midas customer for over 10 years, but that is about to end.
I took the vehicle into Midas for an oil change and a Fuel Filter replacement. I supplied the oil and filters. This was on February 25, 2009. Invoice #1406570. Payment amount was $64.48. After the installation of materials I noticed that the vehicle was starting "harder" than seemed usual and I took it to our dealer to be checked-out. I thought there might be an electrical issue.
Our dealer informed me that the "O" ring on the fuel filter had never been installed and was causing air to be introduced to the fuel system causing the "harder" starting. To correct the problem, the dealer had to install another fuel filter and do a pressure check of the fuel system. This resulted in my spending an additional $260.59 because Midas did not install the fuel filter correctly. This was on February 27, 2009. The invoice number is 678841. The work was done by my dealer, O'Rielly Chevrolet at 6160 East Broadway, Tucson, AZ 85711. Phone-520-747-8000.
I brought this to the attention of the Midas Center Manager, faxed him a copy of the dealer's paid invoice and have heard nothing back. It has been over 21 days now. Fax was sent 03-06-2009. I feel Midas needs to reimburse me for the expense of having the dealer correct the improper installation. Not to mention the additional time and cost of getting to the dealer. Midas charged me $44.99 plus tax for the work and the filter cost was $38.99 plus tax.
Midas made an offer to settle on April3, 2009. Their offer was $130.00.
A viable offer would be $260.59 plus the Midas charged labor for the originally installed fuel filter of $44.99 plus a mileage allotment for the additional 70 miles round trip that I had to drive to have the truck repaired after Midas messed-up the original installation. That would be an additional $30,00. The total of a viable offer would be $335.58 not $130.00.
I would be willing to settle for the cost of the repairs to Midas's mistake which is $260.59. If Midas had forgotten to put oil in the truck and the engine had seized up, would they be offering the cost of the oil or the cost of a newly installed engine?
I don't see how I can accept anything less than the $260.59 it cost to repair Midas's error.

The dealership may have done something, but it had nothing to do with an o-ring at the filter.
