I intended to comment on the other post, i'm not sure if I have done that or started a new thread now. but Here Goes.
This company is contacting one of my nieghbors and her scared to death, I told her not to worry and I would see what I can do about all of this.
These guys are hounding this poor elderly lady and the only thing she ca think of the reason might be is that she co signed for a Grand child of hers so they could start a credit history. but that was over 9 years ago and she has not seen nor heard from this or any other company since then till now.
this company is unknown to her at all and teh amount they are requesting is well over 2200.00 - the grand child declares she has no clue what this could be for and I have seen her credit report and there is no defaults and no credit filed for that even comes close to this amount. The statment we recieved states teh origonal amount was just under 2 grand, makes no statement as to what the money was for, has no start date and lists the origional creditor as WEBBANK - neither my niegbor nor her grand daughter have ever heard of this place nor does the credit report we pulled for the grand daughter have any accounts by them.
How's that for crazy? what I see here is a total crazy scam. There is really no other explaination for this to be happening to this woman as far as I can tell.

Good for you trying to help your neighbor. The same thing happened to me and I won against them in court!
After I received a letter from them I requested written proof of the debt by certified return receipt mail. They ignored me. All of the sudden I get a summons so I go to court. When I show up, there are 30 people there and one attorney representing Midland. They all looked really scared And started making deals to pay their "debts".
Whe it was our turn we said no deal and asked for proof of the debt. The attorney had nothing! We showed the judge our certified return receipt signed by Midland and we won.
We are part of a class action against Midland. They are bullies and they are not following the law. Here is my advice, I am not an attorney, (but I play one on tv... Just kidding) but I have done tons of research and I won in court against these monsters.
1. Do not talk to them on the phone. They lie and you have no documentation. 2. Request proof of debt by certified return receipt. 3. If you get any court date or notice do not ignore it. 4. They have to provide proof of debt and most times they Do Not Have It!
They are counting on people not showing up in court and and being afraid if they do.
