  I first met Allan Labrec after contacting Midwest Spas in April 2011 to ask if they serviced my type of jacuzzi.  They gave me Mr.Labrec's phone number and I then contacted him. They said he was in charge of their service department.  He said he was the only one that could service my type of jacuzzi of the personnel at Midwest Spas.

  I have spent $972.79 and to this date (November 9, 2011), and having given him way to many chances to rectify the situation, still do not have a working jacuzzi.  The funny thing is I just wanted a leak fixed.

  He ended up changing out the entire electrical system and the leak was never fixed.  He said changing out the system should  fix the leak. Excuse after excuse just kept coming. 

  I also had called him many times and would not get return phone calls.  I actually went into the Midwest Spa store  at least a couple of time to speak to someone to find out what was going on.  That would get the communication going again even though it was short lived.  As of 11-7-2011 approximately 7 months after he started work on my jacuzzi, I finally had had enough and asked for my money back.  I even called the owner of Midwest Spas, George Schlangen, and he basically said that I would have to get the money back from Mr. Labrec.  

  I had had previous conversations with Mr. Schlangen regarding this situation and the complaint that I had.  He told me he was not happy at all with Mr. Labrec's performance.  He also mentioned that they have been trying to get rid of Mr. Labrec for the last 6 months.  I said he is your service department and you are responsible for his actions.  There service department phone number (Allan Labrec's) is on their website.  

  Mr. Labrec actually told me at one point not to speak to anyone at Midwest Spas for whatever reason he had.  At this point, about a month ago, I said I was very upset with what has happened so far, and he then aggressively said he would bring the part over and I could install it myself.  I was very frustrated, out $972.79 at this point and I told him I just wanted my jacuzzi fixed.  I figured after all the attempts I have let him have in fixing the jacuzzi, I would give it one more shot on the premise that I am already out $972.79 and the jacuzzi is not working, why be out the money and the jacuzzi not working either. 

  When I did ask Mr. Labrec for my money back , on November 7, 2011, he told me, "That's not going to happen".  He then said he was going to come over to my house and take the mother board out of the jacuzzi.  I this point I told him to stay off of my property and he hung up on me.  I then contacted the police, they came over, and I filed a report to make sure they contacted him warning him about coming onto my property.  I have a family and do not need some angry person coming over who may do something stupid. He had shown an aggressive attitude before. 

From early April 2011 until now there have been so many incidences.  Nothing he did ever went right.  He always had an excuse for everything.  Did not show up when he was supposed to, wrong parts, telling me I needed something else to fix.  There was just excuse after excuse. 

  I even had to tighten a clamp myself that was holding a hose on that was leaking after he installed the electrical system.  Just completely shoddy work.  He even wanted me to change the circuit breaker, while he was there, in the house which was very confusing to me.  I had hired him and paid him to do the complete work.  He eventually did change the breaker.

  The control panel on the jacuzzi has yet to be mounted properly. The one that controls the jet and heat. He said he had to custom cut a piece of plastic to make that work.  Therefore, it has never been sealed and has been exposed to the elements. That was back in April 2011 too.  The list just goes on and on.

 Therefore, as I write this, I am out $972.79 and the jacuzzi is not functioning at all.  I would like to get my money back and all the original parts that he had replaced.  

  I have been in business for almost 30 years and have never had an experience like this before.  You give your trust to someone and they absolutely take advantage of your ignorance on a subject you know very little about.

As of right now my jacuzzi tub is not working and the temperatures are dropping and need to have someone who knows what they are doing come and rectify the situation.

One last thing, he also mentioned that I may need to replace another pump.  I have been told by another service company that would be about another $400.00.  All the electrical parts were working fine when he first came out.  That was not the issue at that point.  I just needed the leak fixed.  In addition, There is still a part that Mr. Labrec has been waiting for to come in...excuses, excuses.

I'm done with Midwest Spas, Allan Labrec and George Schlangen and will never ever use them again.

The following letter we are posting is the response to the Illinois Attorney Generals Office Of Consumer Protection Division-Dated 12-12-2011 With a Response of no wrong doing from Midwest Spas. 

To whom it may concern:

I have received your December 2, 2011 letter regarding the subject complaint filed by Mr. Glenn H. Bergman.  Unfortunately, Mr. Bergman is not nor has ever been a customer of Midwest Spas.  As such, we deny any liability for the circumstances outlined in his complaint.

In April, 2011, Mr. Bergman contacted Midwest Spas to inquire about service work for his hot tub.  Mr. Bergman was informed that Midwest Spas does not perform service work directly but could provide the name/number of an independent service provider, if interested.  Because Allan Labrec had previously performed service work for Midwest Spas customers without incident, his contact information was shared with customers inquiring about service work.  Mr. Bergman accepted the contact information for Mr. Labrec.

At this point, all service work was handled directly between Mr. Bergman and Mr. Labrec.  All billing and payment activity was also handled directly between Mr. Bergman and Mr. Labrec, as you will note by copies of the invoice and checks.  Further, the web site referenced in the complaint (www.midwestspas.net) belongs to Mr. Labrec and is not affiliated with Midwest Spas.  The official site for Midwest Spas is www.midwestspasinc.com.  While we recognize the similarity in web site names, we unfortunately have no authority over other web sites.

In early Fall 2011, Mr. Bergman contacted Midwest Spas to share his concerns regarding the service work and poor response from Mr. Labrec.  Understanding his frustration, I agreed to speak with Mr. Labrec in an effort to facilitate discussion and hopefully resolution between the two parties.  This mediation effort was in no way an intent to assume liability.  During my subsequent meeting with Mr. Labrec, I was able to secure the spa board for Mr. Bergman.  I personally delivered the board to Mr. Bergman but did not perform any installation or service work.  During my visit, we also discussed steps Mr. Bergman could take to winterize his Spa to prevent potential damage during the cold months.  Mr Bergman was informed the visit was not a service call but rather an effort to mitigate some of this issues Mr. Bergman experienced.  As such, no billing or invoice was submitted by Midwest Spas.  

I certainly empathize with Mr. Bergman and his interaction with Mr. Labrec.  Midwest Spas has received other complaints and as a result, no longer provides customers with Mr. Labrec's contact information.  Midwest Spas is currently training and developing in-house technicians so future service work can be performed internally.

As noted above, Midwest Spas has no liability for the unfortunate situation between Mr. Bergman and Mr. Labrec.  If additional information is needed, please feel free to contact me directly.
