As a new realtor, I attended a one-day seminar put on by The Mike Ferry Organization. The seminar speaker, Bob Fitzgerald, convinced me to sign up for coaching with the Mike Ferry Organization (MFO), at a cost of $1,000 per month, based on his glowing promises of learning to understand what motivates people ("what makes people tick") , and how to lead them to take action ("buy or sell a home"). I signed up for this expensive training so that my MFO coach could teach me all about the four Personality Styles (Driver", "Expressive", "Amiable", and "Analytical"). I agreed with the seminar speaker that this valuable information would serve me well in all areas of my life.

Unfortunately, that teaser seminar was the last I heard of the information about Personality Styles, other than a few taped segments of Mike Ferry on the Web. My coach had no information on Personality Styles for me. In fact, what she coached me to do was to cold-call people, without regard to the Do Not Call List, which is illegal. I crunched the numbers in Excel and found that over 80% of the phone numbers in my local area are on the Do Not Call List. When I told my coach that I was having a problem, because it was illegal to call people on the Do Not Call List, and over 80% of the phone numbers in my area were on that list, she said, Most of my clients don't look at the Do Not Call List. So in addition to NOT getting the information about what makes people tick, which was promised, what I was getting was coaching on doing something illegal!

I advised my coach that I can't be involved in something illegal. MFO assigned me to a new coach. Still, the new coach had no information about Personality Styles. Month after month, in a one-year contract, I paid $1,000 a month for what proved to be a classic bait and switch.

Finally, I traveled to attend a seminar that lasted several days, in hopes of getting some of the promised information about Personality Styles. When that also proved to be about cold-calling, with a big wink accompanying any discussion about not calling people on the Do Not Call List, I asked the seminar leader if he knew of any books that might provide the promised information about Personality Styles. He had no recommendation, and seemed to think that I was requesting something that had nothing to do with the Mike Ferry Organization and coaching. It was as if the speaker in the teaser seminar made all of the promises related to learning about Personality Styles without telling anybody else in the organization what he was promising.

Ultimately, what I learned was that people will promise you anything to get your money. What salespeople say when they are trying to get you to sign up and pay for their company's services may have little or no bearing on what you actually get for your money. Although I had always thought that I would enjoy being a realtor, I found that I disliked it intensely. There is just too much lying and shenanigans in that field for me. The experience of being defrauded by the Mike Ferry Organization, to the tune of $12,000, was the most expensive of many untoward events that led to my getting out of the real estate business.

If you need help from a coach on making illegal calls to people on the Do Not Call List, and can pay $1,000 a month for that kind of thing, go for it. Otherwise, don't bother. The educational information on Personality Styles that is the main thrust of their promises will not be delivered.

MFO worked for me

AUTHOR: Eagertrader - (United States)

POSTED: Friday, January 08, 2021

I was was a modestly successful agent that for ten years consistently closed 20 to 25 transactions a year but working myself to death. In 1999 I went to a MFO seminar in Baltimore and decided to take the risk and take the $12K coaching. It was hard work, because it required me to get up 5 days x week at 5 am, exercise every morning, make or take a call for a half an hour each day with an accountability partner (another agent taking coaching) to practice the scripts and dialogs, and prospect for four hours. All this preliminary work was done before going on appointments, doing research for buyers or sellers, administrative chores or making followp calls. It was a full day!

Thanks to this my business tripled in three years and by 2003 I was closing 55 to 60 transactions a year, with a lot less effort and drama. I remained in coaching until 2007 and left only because I did not want to work as hard anymore. What I did allowed me to keep working today at my own pace only because I want to not because I have to. I enjoy helping past clients who have by now become friends as I kept in touch with them over the years.

The moral of my story is this: MFO works but not for everyone. It will not make a frog into a prince just because you pay $1K every month. If you're willing to subordinate your pre-conceived notions (ego?) and follow the program, put in the work, keep a positive attitude and work on it even when things aren't going right, the system can't help it but to work.

If I had a complaint it would be this: over the years attending the seminar I met agents that were making incomes into the many millions who developed a snarky attitude towards the lesser producing agents. In that regard I wished that Mike and the coaching staff would have had a conversation with them so they would be more approachable and inspirational to the rest of us. In other words I would have liked to have had more of a general community back then (which I did within the group of friends I developed). I left the program 13 years ago, perhaps it may have changed for the better by now, but as far of the system, it works. I am living proof of that. If you are reading this, I wish you the best in your Real Estate career!

Poor definiton of "the epitomy" - not even RE-lated!

AUTHOR: wordofmouth - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, August 30, 2010

It really a shame that these individuals and organizations are ripping people off. and not meeting  their own terms of contracts.  However this should NOT be a reflection on the industry as a whole, there are far more honest , hard working Realtors, agents and trainers than are these self proclaimed gurus that arent agents at all... so PLEASE dont say "they are  the epitomy of whats wrong with the RE industry"...they, like other rip off artists and unethical con-men simply find a vehicle and a desire/demand  or  fear based motivation and capitalize on it. Sadly its everywhere ... across MANY industries from health, medical  and wellness to banking..to  insurance investments and beyond.

Im about to report on the giant, Citbank..for what good it will do!!!  (They even said they dont care- they KNOW i wont sue them! uugghgh... oh how I wish wish I had the time, cash and energy)  Violations for skirting /igonring the new laws and making it impossible to do fair business w/ them.

And dont even get me started onte isurance industry! adn COBRA -tlaka bout lying cheating SOBs! ... sorry ..off topic I know, but point is.. multiple industries, many cheats and  liars.

Signing off...
Word of Mouth  AKA Batgirl!
PS ...and NO i am not an agent - I just play one on tv...JK
I do a lot of marketing and RE is one of my markets)

Bob Fitzgerald Ran Out On Employees and Clients

AUTHOR: dcslb - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Bob Fitzergerald ran "Fitzgerald Seminars" in Florida and the purpose was to get companies in the real estate affiliate industries to sponsor seminars to attract business partners.  Our company paid several thousand dollars for such a seminar and prior to it happening I received a communication that there were issues.  The company folded up.  I Googled them and discovered there were many people out thousands of dollars and employees who were stiffed.

In my search I discovered that Fitzgerald had gone to work with Mike Ferry.  I contacted Mike Ferry and asked if he was aware he hired what amounted to a con man who ran a ponzi scheme on seminars.  He blew me off, when I said I was contacting Florida AG plus letting local real estate community know he hired con artists he hung up.  I then got a call from his attorney saying they would sue me for slander.  Sue away I said, I will simply point people to the internet.

Bob Fitzgerald ripped off a lot of hard working people like myself trying to help their sales staff and generate business in the local real estate community.  And he screwed over his employees with no pay as he closed his company and ran from Florida.  He epitomizes what is wrong within the real estate industry.

The Mike Ferry Organization Changed My Life

AUTHOR: Metro Detroit Realtor - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 28, 2009

As a rebuttal to the previous post I want to start off with saying, MFO (the Mike Ferry Organization) has not just changed my business, but it's changed my life. The gentleman that was talking about this 'bait and switch' was unforetunately not paying attention to everything that MFO offers. The personality styles he was so worried about is gone over in depth in one of Mike's reports.

As a One-on-One coaching client, you recieve thousands of dollars worth of training material that really works! Personality styles(Driver", "Expressive", "Amiable", and "Analytical"), scripts, dvd's, cd's, MP3's, daily emails, daily phone conversations, and weekly coaching call all add up to one thing...success.

Following up on the DNC list. Taken directly from the National DNC website (http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/donotcall/#relatedrules), here are the only violations that if you make are considered 'illegal';

The telemarketer calls before 8 AM or after 9 PM; OR

The telemarketer leaves a message, but fails to leave a phone number that you can call to sign up for their company specific do-not-call list; OR

You receive a telemarketing call from a company that you have previously requested not call you; OR

The telemarketing firm fails to identify itself; OR

You receive a pre-recorded commercial message from someone with whom you do not have an established business relationship and to whom you have not given permission to call you

NEVER in the time I've been with MFO have they told us to break these laws. Back when this came out Mike took the time to explain all this to us, making sure we WEREN"T doing anything illegal. If someone was so upset about the DNC list, than you could have went to the Expireds door and knocked!

In closing, before I joined MFO (and spent the 1k every month) I was closing 10-12 deals a year. After taxes I only brought home about 40k.

This year alone I've already brought home 120k (remember it's only May 28th), I've closed 38 deals and I'm on track (based on year to date) to close 75 deals for the year. What is the only thing that changed? I gave into the MFO system and it works!!

Excuses don't make money, only hard work and dedication can get you to your goals.

Thank you,
