Miniclip owns and hosted a game called Dogfight Squadron for a period of approximately 5 years. The game was available to pay for free but had in game upgrades available. In order to play the game competitively paying cash for upgrades was mandatory. Miniclip boasts the game had over 1 million users. On August 1, 2013 the game was pulled from the Miniclip site.
Miniclip has been contacted by several devoted players about the status of the game. All inquiries have been ignored by miniclip. There is simply a banner stating the game in currently receiving maintenance. Miniclip has a long history using the term "maintenance" as a synonym for discontinued. Miniclip like many corporations avoids conflict if at all possible. In order to avoid refund requests and outraged players they use the facade of "maintenance" to deflect inquiries.
Many players have multiple accounts with well over $100 invested in the game.
Miniclip is not issuing any refunds. Furthermore they aren’t even acknowledging refund requests. They are simply ignoring all inquiries about the game of any sort.
While what they have done may not be illegal, any reasonable person would agree that it is sleazy and cold.
