We bought a used car off of this dealer in April 2008.  We don't have great credit, but it is improving drastically, we just needed a second car fast.

Two weeks after bringing the car home,  the engine blew a head gasket.  The company was difficult to work with, and the only way the repair work was done to the car was when I threatened to default on payments and told them repossess it.

Two more weeks go by, the tires on the front end wore out completely due to the dealer not aligning them properly.  This was met with resistance, but finally new tires were supplied by the dealer.

Three months go by, suddenly the car that "passed NYS inspection" at their dealer is leaking gasoline from the gas tank.  We couldn't even put fuel in it without it leaking on the ground.

We parked it and haven't been able to drive it since November 2008.

We called the dealer and were told it wasn't their problem, and we were responsible for this repair.  Now if the car passed inspection only a few months prior, how did it suddenly develop a HUGE gas leak?

For the next year and a half, we have been paying weekly payments.  At one point, a problem with our checking account occured, and caused us to send a few later payments.  We even notified Mohawk on the situation and assured them to please bare with us, we will be sending a payment.

This was blown off, and payments were due Fridays.  By 10AM every Friday, the obnoxious customer service staff would be calling work, home and cell phones threatening to repossess.

It felt really great (sarcasm) when the check's in the mail, they have notice of a later payment, and you are getting harassed at work for MISSING A PAYMENT, by a half a day due to mail delivery.

When our checking account was unavailable, we were a few payments behind, and they would BARELY accept a cash payment and allow us to pay in advance so we wouldn't have to drive out to Schenectady every week until we had checks to mail again.  It was horrible having to argue just to pay your bills responsibly.  They acted like they were doing us a huge favor.  It was degrading.

We realized the way our pay checks came in from work made it so a payment was almost always a few days later than we'd like.  We tried on numerous times to restructure our payments and give a monthly payment of a lump sum for the month, and it was rejected over and over.  Instead, they'd rather charge 40$ extra per week in interest and late fees.

We finally saved up enough money to just pay off the piece of trash.  We sent a check, after requesting a payoff amount, and they charged 10$ interest on a PAY OFF. We're STILL waiting for the lien clear letter to get rid of the car with its clear title.

This company is the most difficult company to deal with I have ever met.  I know we had poor credit, but its no reason to take advantage!

Word to the wise, go ANYWHERE in the capital region besides Mohawk Auto.  They are horrible to deal with, and very rude and condescending.  The polar opposite of good customer service.

You Said It Perfectly!

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 07, 2012

You said it perfectly...they charge a high interest rate because people have SUBPRIME credit.  Who gave you SUBPRIME credit?  YOU have SUBPRIME credit because YOU gave yourself a documented and verified reputation of NOT paying your bills on time.  The reason for a high interest rate is many people with SUBPRIME credit fail to make their payments on time.  Surprise, surprise, YOU aren't making your payments on time!  Oh I see, its the bank's fault, right?  Problems with the checking account?  What is that, overdraft fees because you don't keep a check register and continue to use the card/write checks when you don't have a clue what the balance is?

If you want a low APR, then start developing an excellent payment record.  You are not ENTITLED to a low APR with your credit reputation.

Any mechanical problems are a separate issue from you paying your bills on time.

Mohawk Auto endangered my newborn

AUTHOR: newmom030412 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, September 01, 2012

My best friend bought a vehicle from Mohawk Auto Center. The day my friend picked up her vehicle from the dealer she offered to babysit my 5 month old son. That night while I was still out I received a phone call from her that while she was driving in this new vehicle she purchased from Mohawk auto center her brakes completely failed and her emergency brake also didn't work at all.

She had to park the vehicle and have it brought in the next day. If this car had been completely and accurately inspected for NYS and pass then why did the brakes fail completely upon the day of picking it up with no emergency brake working at all! I thank God that her, her children, and my son were not harmed!

This could have resulted in SERIOUS injury! I am furious that this dealer would let a vehicle off their lot with those issues and KNOWINGLY endanger people's lives. Why do I say KNOWLINGLY? I was informed by a salesman from Mohawak Auto that none of the cars on the lot are looked at by this dealer until someone signs to buy the vehicle. Very very shady. I think this company needs to be reviewed by NYS to ensure that they are inspecting cars properly so that this doesn't happen to someone else and that no other lives are put in danger.

My fianc and I WILL be speaking to a party about this endangerment issue.
