We have used monitronics for over 12 years, and moved from the property over 11 months ago. We probably didn't send a cancellation letter, but we recall calling them and asking them to disconnect after contract expires in next few months. 

We call them back as the billing continued since then, and they refuse to refund more than one month of the billing. In all this time, the old house had no monitoring equipment, and obviously no monitoring of any sort.  Abolutely no good will to come halfway or whatever.

This tells you the level of monitoring service and customer service they provide to a loyal customer. For me - never again.
