My wife and I took our car to Monro to have an oil change on April 23rd, 2009. We went to the Monro dealer located at 3320 Walnut Street in Harrisburg PA and paid them to do the oil change. On May 25th, 2009 and approximately 1,800 miles later our engine is making a loud noise almost like a machine gun...we check the oil and lo and behold there is no oil on the dip stick....4 quarts of oil later we have the proper amount of oil in the vehicle...however the damage was done and our engine is wasted...

I immediately call Tim at the Monro dealer that we took it to and tell him the situation...he has the car towed in at their expense to the Walnut Street garage at about 10:30 am on the 27th of May,2009...I had to call Tim several times in order to find out what was going on, to which I was told I am looking at the vehicle and will get back to you. Finally Tim calls and gives me the news that I already knew was coming...the problem was not due to them not putting the oil in the vehicle after the oil change but rather my vehicle was burning 4 quarts of oil through the engine....wow I must of missed all the smoke that would be pouring out the back of my exhaust and the loud tapping noise that my engine would have been making because of using all that oil as well as all the oil that would have gone into my anti-freeze...thats because none of that occurred...

this is a blantant and wonton act of negligence on their part and repeated calls to the District Manager have gone un-answered and never returned...and heres the kicker they want me to pay the 58 dollar towing bill before they will release my vehicle so that I can have another garage do a tear down and diagnostic evaluation on the vehicle...I am to take their word that it is not there fault and because of that I am to pay ....yeah right!!!!

EXPERIENCED TECH

AUTHOR: Dblaze - (U.S.A.)

IF THE MONRO SHOP DID NOT PUT OIL IN YOUR VEHICLE THERE IS NO WAY YOU COULD HAVE DRIVEN 1800 MILES. YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN LUCKY TO MAKE IT 100 MILES WITH NO OIL. WAS THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT / GAUGE INDICATING LOW OIL PRESSURE?

It's your fault

AUTHOR: Ase Certified Master Tech - (U.S.A.)

If they hadn't added oil after draining it you would of had an indicator on your dash telling you that you had no oil pressure. If you did indeed drive your car like this for 1800 miles, it's your fault the engine went out. If this light somehow happens to be burned out you would of heard loud noises coming from your engine upon startup. You stated there were no "loud tapping" noises though. So based on this there must of been atleast some oil added to your car before you left the shop. It's ok that you're not a mechanic and you don't understand how a car works, but you neglecting your car is not this shops fault. I'd almost bet that they even mentioned the fact that your car leaks oil to you also, since upsaling is how shops make money. Provide info saying the year make model and mileage of your car.

You have no claim

Hmmm. You drove 1800 miles on zero oil? Not a chance. You leaked it, or burned it. If you actually opened the hood earlier...say every week...you would have seen the oil level going down. Had you then added the proper amount to bring the level back to full, this issue would not have happened.
