Mountain Area Communications Scammed Me Sneedville Tennessee

Ok so I signed up for this magazine deal from MAC and at first it seemed like a really good deal, and a 500$ shopping spree to boot, until I got it and I had to pay shipping and I couldn't use the shopping spree money I had to use my own and shipping prices were outrageous, I was never told I would have to pay shipping out of pocket. Well I buy magazines and I thought how awesome to get them sent to my house and just pay once a month. Well they told me if I payed 39.90$ a month it would be prorated it would only be like 800$ and if I payed the minimum fee then it would be over a grand, so I said ya I can do that... bad idea.


They told me that my first payment would be in a couple of weeks, they took money out immediately!!! I called and they said that they said they told me that and they would be taking money out again the next month the day they said there were going to pull the first payment.


Well I hadn't gotten anything for a couple of months so I called my bank and they blocked them from getting money out, well next month they pulled again and I called my bank and they said I have to change my banking number, so I did so. Then a couple weeks after I received magazines but they weren't the ones I had asked for. They kept calling me after that because they weren't getting any money. I had then been going through a very rough time, I had no money, my husband had left me, I had a vehicle that needed fixing and 2 kids under the age of 2.


The way they offered to "work" with me was that I could pay my past due balance and then they could lower the payment, I repeatedly told them I do not have the money, told them of my situation and yet they still said I needed to pay the back balance in full. I had tried calling before to get the payment lowered and they said they couldn't do so. I then spoke with somebody a couple weeks later and they said if you can come up with the back amount then you can only pay a small sum. But I was at a loss, I had other bills I had to pay and no money for them, and the money I did have was spent on my kids because they needed it.


Well a couple of months went by, I don't have the same number and I moved. Somebody I know has the phone now and informed me (late I might add) that they are sending my account with them to collections and attorneys will take care of it and not only will I have to pay the full magazine bill but I will have to pay attorneys fees and that it will screw up my credit horribly and even said it will hinder me from getting a cell phone. I have had people tell me that they can't do that and that they won't do anything and that they can't just say I can't cancel because anything can be canceled if its not wanted. I don't remember giving them my social, and I don't think that I would have. I just don't want this to ruin my credit. But I don't have the money to pay them. I just don't know what to do.
