I had the same experience as other reports on this site.  As an agent, Mutual of Omaha forces you to buy their bogus leads and then declines every policy you write.  At the end of your few months with them you will end up owing them more money than you ever made.  It's a scam, all insurance is, but you would expect more from Mutual of Omaha.  In just six months there, almost every agent I worked with is gone, no doubt owing money back to Mutual because of the bogus leads or every policy which was declined or cancelled.

Stay away from them, you could make more money just not working at all!

Mutual of Omaha, a Great Place to Work

AUTHOR: Tony - (United States of America)

I am an agent at Mutual of Omaha and have been since September of last year.  Mutual of Omaha does not force you to buy leads, the lead generation is program is optional.  Leads are not guaranteed they are people who may be interested in more information on insurance.  The lead generation program costs money, and in an effort to keep our premiums low Mutual passes that cost to the agent,on a voluntary basis.  To get out of the lead program i can simply email my DSM and ask not to be given leads.

"declines every policy you write" - Mutual of Omaha is a fiscally conservative company, this is why we have not been in the news for multi-billion dollar losses such as AIG.  If an agent correctly writes good business Mutual of Omaha would not decline the policy, as this would not make sense because Mutual makes money based on issued business.  In fact is costs a great deal of money to get a policy issued and if every policy was declined it would not take long for us to be out of business.

Lastly you write that all insurance in a scam, which poses the question of why you worked for an insurance company to begin with if you have felt this way.  I am sorry that you had a bad experience, but i have seen several new agents become successful in a relatively small amount of time.  Mutual of Omaha has hundreds of agents who make a good living, provide for families, and enjoy working for Mutual.  This being the case it is far more likely that insurance sales just isn't for you.
