SEO Reputation Management at its best!

They advertise an ability to retrieve data on ancestors.  Their search template is  totally worthless. As a test I tried searching for data on my late mother. No matter how carefully I follow their instructions, after much wasted time, I only get untold thousands of IRRELEVANT hits.  A TOTALLY USELESS SYSTEM.

A test where one carefully specifies birthplace, birth day, exact first, middle and last name with maiden name, place of death etc should yield data that has SOME utility. Their system makes no sense.

Worse yet, rather than answer a highly focused very specific succinct inquiry on the above they assign a "case number" with no followup to me.  THEY IGNORE E-MAIL INQUIRIES.  I HAVE HAD ENOUGH.

Although, my credit card has not been charged YET - I am reluctant to wait any longer.

EXTREMELY DELAYED RESPONSE

AUTHOR: Wwwgjsnet - (U.S.A.)

A test is just that - a test.  Had this company passed my simple reasonable test, I would have been open to buying their services to gain information on kin that I have little or no information on.

The highly focused very specific facts in my complaint are ignored. I know a lot about my mother.

Entered data for a close relative with facts already known was only a test.

My test had extreme high specificity and should have yielded relevant data.

Nothing in their "reply" addresses the above-  based in common sense.

Failing logical relevance,  they bury us in mostly generic prose that appears to be automatically generated. In any event, the specific facts in my complaint are not questioned or explained.

In my scientific research I use a variety of search engines and common "filter" techniques.

Dear Gerhardt,

Thank you for your feedback. SuperSearch, the historical records search engine, is a new adventure for MyHeritage so we appreciate very much any and all feedback about how to improve the user experience. We aim to be a resource for effective genealogy research and to provide the best tools to aid in documenting the details of your family's story.

I hope that I can provide a few tips specific to our product and your research that will help you get the most out of your free trial. An experienced researcher like yourself knows that it is best to start any project with a research question. A question defines what you want to find before beginning your search.

As explained in your post you do have a very specific goal in mind, that is a wonderful place to start. You describe how to input details into the search fields and change the matching of the input criteria from "match similar" to "match exactly" in the Advanced Search tool. Click the green search button to proceed to results.

The initial list of search results that displays gives you a good starting place, but is not the end list. You will have greater success if you don't stop narrowing your search on the initial page of search results. The search engine is designed to give you a large pool of records initially and allow you to further filter that initial page of results to best fit your ancestor. So don't despair if the initial search does not seem to yield useful research leads or if the list includes more results than it is humanly possible to review individually.

Built into SuperSearch are several tools to organize and filter the initial page search results. In the left hand margin is a list of details about the first page of search results, notice the "Narrow down by category". All of the record categories for which results are found are listed in the left margin here. If you are looking for a birth date, click on the Birth, Marriage, and Death category to limit the results to vital records. That done, you will see that there are sub-categories to further specify the results. Select Birth & Baptism records and see the results narrow to only birth and baptism records. This filtering allows you to get down as specific as "Marshall County, Kentucky, Birth Records, 1852 - 1859, 1861" or "UK Parish Baptisms" for example.

If for the ancestor you are researching you have the birth record, but you are curious about the who, when and where of their life or you just don't know what to look for first the second filtering tool may better serve your needs. To learn more about this ancestor scroll down and you will find below the record category filter is filter tool labeled "Refine your search by:" First name, Last name, Birth year, Birth place, Father name, and Mother name. Clicking on First name will give you a list of various spellings or first name/middle name combinations that were returned by the search inputs.Select the most relevant listing and see the list of search results narrow automatically to include only that selection. You can go back and clear the selection to get the original pool of records or try out different filters options.

Lastly, notice that the view of the records in the top right corner can be set to "Results" or to "Summary". The default view displays the list in Results format, and I don't know about you, but I am more of a Summary person myself. Switching the view of the search results list to Summary view lets me to scroll through the results and find the collections that relate to my research question quickly This bypasses the need to search through a list of names when I know just what I want to find.

I hope that this is helpful and gives you the tips and insight needed to use this unique research tool. The collection includes over 4 billion historical records and is constantly expanding, but it is possible that your family is not yet listed in our records. This is why we provide a free trial period and a money back guarantee for users to try out our collections.

I apologize for the delay in responding to your email, we do respond to every ticket. If the request was received over a weekend we may have been unable to reply right away. If you still have questions or additional feedback after trying the tips listed above, please send a note to support@myheritage.com and we will be able to help you.

Best Regards,
MyHeritage Team
