NCO Financial, Inc. NCO Group Human Error + Stopped Payment on Employer's Check = Fiasco Charleston , South Carolina
Then, payday comes. I wake up in the morning and check my bank account to see if my paycheck had been deposited into my account. It hadn't, and I wasn't too worried, for this was my first paycheck and I didn't know if it was to hit my account later in the day. Either way, I wient to work early, as usual and went to the HR department to ask if I'd received a live check for any reason. I hadn't and asked if I could print out my paycheck stub. To my horror, the last four of my checking account information, which was all I could see, was incorrect.
I let the person up front know what happened and he told me the proceedures. Basically, I had to wait for my bank to reject the check and I would receive a live check within three days.
I went up front on Thursday, because was MLK day, and I still didn't have a check. I decided to give it another day and told my trainer at the time that I was going up there, so she didn't think I was abandoning my position, or in the rest room. She didn't know about the situation until then. She then told me anytime we had any issues to always address it with her first, then she will take the issue to HR, because we had to be on the phones. She and I then went to the front office and they told us they hadn't received any bank rejections. She let me know she would fix the issue. I went home on break, and low and behold, THERE WAS MY CHECK!!! I went back to work and let my trainer know that I received my check in the mail. She looked surprised and said she'd send out an email.
That Friday night I deposited that check into an ATM at my bank because they were closed. The following Tuesday I got to work and a lady from payroll Cindy came by my desk and let me know, while I was on the phone with a customer, that she issued a stop payment on my check. I was in shock. Why would she do that? Later that afternoon, she had me come to her office and informed me that it was my fault and the company would not be responsible for any fees that incurred on my account because of it.
I let the situation go, waiting for her to contact me about what I needed to do next. That Friday I finally received my first real paycheck from the company via direct deposit. I immediately withdrew all on the funds from my account.
It wasn't until almost a week after she told me that she put a stop payment on my check, did the funds actually bounce. That was this past Monday. I went to HR on Monday asking to speak with Cindy and she "wasn't there." So, I stated i would file a complaint and filed a complaint with the SCDOL. The next day on Tuesday Cindy had a meeting with me and one of her, whatever she is. I sat there while she ripped down my throat about how it was absolutely my fault because I got my direct deposit information incorrect. That I could file whatever I wanted with whomever I wanted and it wouldn't effect her in the least. She told me I would get my check whenever I get my check.
I left work early that day and called Cindy's boss, Andrea. I got a call back the next day and Andrea told me to FAX a statement from my bank showing that the check was rejected. A "letter of return" and I did. I have done that three (3) times.
So, here I sit with a negative bank account, and in a couple days it will be a month since I was initially was supposed to be paid.
