Netspend is an absolute mess. I never lost my card, but card information was stolen over a month and a half ago and used on-line to charge almost 1400 dollars worth of charges. I reported it the day before most of the charges posted and, yes, NETSPEND wouldn't stop pending charges from posting because it is against "VISA" policy.

I will tell you that this whole fiasco has taken up a lot of time and trouble. After contacting these companies to whom the charges were made myself directly, I completed all the paperwork, filed police reports, got notarized affidavits as required by NETSPEND. Still, I have been trying to work with the people at NETSPEND for a month and a half to get the charges fixed (basically just put on actual dispute list) and, today, am still in limbo. I have called them on the phone repeatedly, faxed their offices 3 times, had 2 affidavits completed, gone to the police station 3 times, sent them countless messages, and then complained directly to customer service.

I thought maybe it was over when, three weeks ago, customer service messaged me to say that they were sorry and would get it taken care of. Then, I found out today that still only two of the charges were ever even disputed, and one was for a company that I did not even put on the dispute list!! So, basically, nothing was ever even done after customer service assured me that I'd get it resolved.

So, here I am - writing this as I prepare to send them yet another fax (a fax that I have sent to them three times already) with affidavit and police report in tow.

I am still 1132 down and they are saying that they will not reimburse any of the debit card use fees associated with these charges. So, basically,I am also paying for someone to steal from me!

To put it bluntly, NETSPEND sucks!
I have used them for almost six years (I have even been upgraded to "ELITE" status) and paid have them countless fees. I knew the fees were high, but I only wish that I would have known how bad they are.

I would advise those of you who have ACE prepaid card or any other other card associated with NETSPEND, METABANK, etc.... to immediately close your account, cut your card in half, and switch companies immediately, before this happens to you.

Anyone interested - lawyers, victims, etc... in filing a class action suit against this company for charging fees for fraudlent charges can reach me at netspendsucks@hotmail.com. If enough of their dissatisfied customers jump on this maybe we can get some of our money back.

response to netspends "refund/fraudulent charge" policy

AUTHOR: foxywolf41 - (United States of America)

ive had the same problem, regarding Netspends "refund/fraudulent charges" policy or should i say, "non-existent" policy.  now while my situation has been resolved in a hard fought battle, i think its HORRENDOUS, that we, the netspend consumer, have absolutely NO avenue to open to us, when it comes to fraudulent charges being made on our cards. they tell US to contact the companies and get the charges dropped or refunded. WHAT?! how often, will a company agree, to refund money, even if its a fraud? they'll consider it a loss to them as well.  if we advise Netspend, that a charge is fraudulent, then they should IMMEDIATELY, suspend/hold all payments. we have NO protection against theft with Netspend. NONE!! THATS FRIGHTENING!! why do we have to do battle, with the actual companies charging us, then do battle with Netspend and their "customer service" department, who BARELY speaks english or comprehend the problem? my sisters pre-paid visa, issued by her credit union,  offers GREAT protection against theft. if frauds reported, they'll IMMEDIATELY take action & refund the money. why is this SOOO hard for Netspend?! why is "fraud protection", an alien term to them?! whats the point of upgrading to "ELITE", when they still treat you as average & still offer the inadequate/non-existent?! im on board with filing a complaint with Netspend and against them w/regards, to their atrocious fraud policy resolutions. either they change it or they'll have more & more dissatisfied consumers, who'll drop them. the ONLY reason im even w/this company, is b/c of their early direct deposits & consumer centers. besides actual banks, other pre-paid visas dont offer this.
