#1 Consumer Suggestion

Do Not Accept "free" Magazine Trials

AUTHOR: Chrystal - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 05, 2007
I bought some items from a popular store. The clerk, upon swiping our debit card, said that since it is backed by a major credit card company, we are being offered a time limited free magazine subscribtion (ex. 6 issues of Maxim or Entertainment Weekly). We accepted because there was no fine print saying that we had to cancel or be charged after the free issues were over or that there would be any charges what so ever. We didn't even give THAT company our card information OR permission to charge it!

I called the company and got an automated service, I cancelled the subscribtion, and also put in to get my money back.

But an important lesson is to say NO to the "free trial" subscribtions! - Or you will be charged, permission or not!
