NXCESS SALES Got $ for a sale & never heard from company/rep. again, Internet

On 5/5/11, a teenaged girl came to my house telling me my neighbor recommended the girl talk to me because I'm a nice person.  The girl proceeded to give me the schpeel about being from my neighborhood (never saw her before with any of my neighbors), raising money for a soccer tournament, and needing to raise $$. 

I didn't like any of the choices of books/magazines or the prices, but found a book that I ordered for my 2 little boys.  I wrote out the check, & was writing "book order" in the memo section & she told me she couldn't turn in a check with anything in the memo section except her name (which ended up not even being on the check) so I had to void that check & write out another one.  She told me that her dad was also making her come back to her customers the next day to wash our cars--to instill good work ethic, etc. 

The next day was Mother's Day & she never showed up then or any other day & I've not heard from her or the company to get the book I "ordered."  I'm going to call my local police dept. & see if I have any recourse.
