My husband and I began the loan process as usual with a loan underwriter that I had used a few times before. She, NAtalie Duarte, knew my financials well and we had established a good working rapport. During the initial loan process, while still in my contingency perod, she emails me notifying me that she locked me in at 3.5 with zero points. Soon after this email we received our Goof Faith Estimate (GFE). Fast forward three weeks when I get an 'Updated" GFE that reflects a higher rate of 3.875%. I email Natalie Duarte back immediately to let her know that my rate was wrong.
She was very vague, told me that I have nothing to worry about and that I am protected. I figured that she had corrected her mistake and we were all moving forward as promised. A week later we arrive at escrow to sign the documents and the rate is still incorrect. We get on the phone with Natalie Duarte and she insists that she made an "honest mistake" and that there is nothing she can do to fix the rate. The escrow officer was shocked by this and told us that Natalie Duarte was obligated to make it right. We left the office without signing escrow documents.
I then email Natalie Duarte to rectify the situation, as it is her responsibility to make it right. It is at this point she begins to coerce me in to signing the documents as is. She begins telling me that the documents contain fraudulent information that cause us not to qualify for the loan. We instruct her to correct the errors in the application in an effort to move forward and she refuses and theatens to cancel our loan. At thsi point we are stock! If we begin the loan process all over again our rate would be even higher (4.25%)! Natalie knows this and she pushes us to sign even though there is fraud that she claims exist in teh documents. The crazy thing is that SHE instructed me via email to commit fraud and explains the bogus documentation a technicality and "no big deal"?
LONG STORY SHORT...We spend 5 horrific days fighting with her and copying every real estate and mortgage professional we know on all of the emails we send to her so that she can SEE that there are many people watching to see what she does. She repeatedly threatens me, makes inflammatory statements and refuses to make it right with the rate. Once she modified the documents so that they are squeaky clean, we close escrow on our new home BUT we continue to dispute our rate! I am pursuing resolve through agencies that I can report Natalie Duarte to. My feeling is where there is one, there are many. This woman should not have the power to mess with people's lives like this. It was truly the most disgusting business transaction in my life.
