National Benefits Consultants - Premier Benefits - Consumer Health Benefits Association - Vantage Am SCAM! They Almost got me! High pressure (you gotta act now) Cold Call (never heard of them) sales Coconut Creek/Ft. Lauderdale Florida
To those of you that got taken, I feel very bad that there are people like them taking advantage of what alot of us desperately need.
I got a call about a form i filled out online about health insurance a fw days ago. They wouldn't insure me. Them i got a call today from someone telling me that my case was turned over to them (them being _Consumer Health Care" and that they might be able to help me if I "acted now".
The guy was a fast talker, used insurance terms, described the plan as an insurance policy (PPO) at first through(, but as the convo went further, it became a "partial" policy partial "discount" plan.."plan A' and "plan b".
He ran through the numbers with me, tellng me all the benefits, then rolled through the dental and vision and quoted me $139 for initially myself. I told him i was married...price didnt change $139...told him had a kid..guess what..same price. FLAG
He gave me his pitch, told me that there were limited openings, that pre-conditions with my wife didnt affect the price, so i agreed to go further with it. I was put on hold, i assume he went to a quite place with an assistant or two, and he verified everything he told me slipping in very quickly that it was $259 and proceeded to ramble over the dental when i questioned he increase. "one time activation fee" he said. FLAG
I gave him my name and birthday, my wifes, and my sons.. regretfully. BUT he never asked for a social security number and actually made a statement about not asking for it. Some attempt to make me feel secure aabout what I was about to do maybe..
Then he was pressing the sale. How I had to act now and that the monthly payment would be taken out automatically through my credit card or bank account.
I have a card with a $500 limit for rainy days that i had to dig for and used that as my form of payment. As i gave the number he asked for the security code on the back..gave it to him. Then i put him on hold and tried to Google Consumer Health Care,Florida. Nothinig came up...hmmm... As soon as I told him I found my card, the assistant could be faintly heard in the background saying "credit card"
So then he told me that i would be connected to someone in there legal department to record me accepting the policy and terms and conditions on tape, that i acknowleged what i was about to do. (so they have me on tape saying "yes I agree". This i'm assuming to contest a credit card companies investigation of fraud, that i was willingily accepting the terms...terms that were always changing)
So i was put on hold to be "connected" to another office in another state. Short pause, then a man came on , again verifying everything that was sold to me. The name of the company changed for Consumer Health Care" to "Consumer Health Benefits" and that this was a health discount card. I asked why was i told initially it was a health plan, He said it has a the part A and B and that Part B was discount and Part A was the Insurance (name used :"Guarantee Trust Life" out of Illinois..
He ran through the verses then asked if i would agree to be taped for the "legal department and that it's required by insurance regulations for my insurance company"
He put me on hold again, then came back and told me that i was being recorded and asked me my full name and asked me to repeat it. I started to go through with this thing and my gut told me to hang up. So i did.
I ran to google, Googled Consumer Health Benefits and the RIPOFF Report webpage popped in results. I ran to the phone called my Credit card company, told them what i did and asked if anything was charged. NOTTA!! so i told them the whole story and they canceled my card and issued me a new one..
LESSON LEARNED. NEVER BUY INSURANCE OVER AN INCOMING PHONE CALL. It's a cold call sale and usually too good to be true..and this was!
