Tim Bernsen signed us up in January for what he claimed to be a refinancing process for our home, through his supposed employer, National Standard Financial. This was to to take 30-90 days and would involve an initial stress test (we had to give him all our financials), approval for the process, up front payment of $3500. His "lawyers" were then to approach our current home loan bank and negotiate a buy the loan out from them. The federal government, under the TARP program would then absorb the difference between the value of our home today vs what we paid for it two years ago. We would then be given a new loan with a new bank at an improved interest rate and a much lower mortgage (the difference having been assumed by TARP).

Tim was of course very enthusiastic and helpful at first. But then he said there was to be a delay due to the high volume of interest in this process. Then we got an email in April from a Duane Delbeke, claiming that he had sold the business to another refi company, Addvent Financial. I spoke to Tim soon after and he claimed that this was a good thing and would actually speed up the process.

Three weeks later (and 6 months since I wired Tim the $3500), the company's phones and Tim's cell phone are disconnected.

Tim was recommended to me by a friend who did the exact same thing and there are two others, based on my recommendation, that have also done this and are also out $3500 each.

On my final call that Tim answered, he mentioned M3 Strategy and the name Michelle Mitchell as being involved in the processed. A quick Google of those names reveals others who have fallen victim.

What is strange is that Tim did turn down one of my friends, claiming that he was not eligible for the process.

I contacted Addvent Financial - they do exist, but claim that they never agreed to a relationship with NSF, Duane, or Tim.

I have thus concluded that this is a total scam and would like to warn others.

I'd also like to reach out to those who have fallen victim and find out if there is anything we can do. Are then any options?

Duane Delbeke is active on Facebook and his company is registered in Arizona.
