HSBC felt my father was such a 'valued' customer that they felt obliged to give his info to "National Fire Insurance Co of Pitts PA", and in turn they bamboozled him into a supplemental accidental insurance policy that he did not need, nor could ever even collect or personally make use of according to the policy that was just explained to me over the phone.
Only $250.80 per year with a convenient billing plan of 20.90 per month directly billed to his HSBC card account. Isn't that special, considering my terminally ill father was on a fixed government disability income, leaving him all of about $50.00 in his pocket after bills and med co pays were paid each month.
My father passed away this year, and since i had cancelled the card. I recently received a billing statement via the address change i submitted for fathers mail. After calling i discovered that they did all this over the phone almost 2 years ago. I honestly do not believe he really knew what he did, as he was in and out of the hospital and taking many different meds during all this.
They may have been within their definition of legal business practice, but i feel that my father was a sick and scared man who was taken advantage of, and that does not make it right. Shame on both companies involved. I find their policies and practices unethical.

Or at least some of it. Pester the bank first, or have the executor do so, and if no satisfaction, complain to your state's banking and insurance oversight agencies. That scammy insurance crappola is actually a subsidiary of AIG, the "taxpayer owned" wonder who nearly sank the global economy 4 years ago.
From experience, my guess is your father may not have even truly agreed to the policy, but the phone reps are experts at twisting any word spoken to them as equaling acceptance. Request the recorded acceptance by your dad be played for you if nobody offers a refund. It won't even matter. If you hear him repeatedly say "No" they'll still insist to you he accepted and talk right over you like automatons.
