Nationwide Tax Relief / Richard Boggs Make Believe Address and Credentials Brentwood California

I submitted my information two months ago along with a hefty three thousand dollar check and nothing has been done in my behalf.  The person who was supposed to be working my case told me that they were going to apply for a power of attorney to take care of the situation without me worrying about being harassed by the IRS but nothing happened.  A few days ago I received a certified noticed by the IRS requesting to talk to me ASAP or else they are going to tap into my account.  I have been trying to contact nation wide but so far I've met with negative results. These people are playing with fire and they know it. If you are reading this please DO NOT do business with this people.  The fact that they were featured in the news just shows that you can't really trust anything nowadays.   

Nationwide Tax Relief is not necessarily a scam, but it is just not a good deal nor the best representation. It is a sales-based organization. I have been in this industry a long time, and have seen a lot of people get told by salespeople something that will never happen.

If you pay them, they will do your case, however they try to terminate you for whatever they can in the mean time. It is not owned or operatse by attorneys, enrolled agents, or CPA's. The people that own the company and the "tax advisors" or "tax consultants" you speak with are not authorized to call the IRS on your behalf. On top of that, Nationwide Tax Relief - and for that fact basically every tax relief company in the nation, do NOT provide Tax Court representation.

One of the main reasons it is more effective to hire an attorney rather than a CPA or EA to work on your case, is that an attorney properly admitted to US Tax Court can take your case as far as it can possibly go, while CPA's cannot, and only a very small percentage of EA's are licensed to go to Tax Court. Nationwide Tax Relief does have attorneys work on your case for an exorbinant fee, but they do not provide Tax Court representation, and you are usually "sold" in the beginning to believe that you will get a better deal than you actually will.

They key to calling any of these tax relief companies is when you call, ASK them what their credentials are. At 95% of these companies - their credentials are "I am just a salesman with no real tax experience." Like the above poster said - her case was very simple and she called the IRS herself. If your case is that simple and you are talking to a real attorney, a good attorney is going to tell you that. Good attorneys do what is in the clients best interest, and no one can do that working for Nationwide Tax Relief.

As for other tax relief companies, I refer clients who ask about tax debt relief to Tax Resolution Professionals (taxresolutionprofessionals.com) . When you call them, you actually talk to a tax attorney the whole time. Other organizations I know to be legitimate are Mike Habib, EA, and Joe Mastriano, EA (taxproblem.org). When your call these companies, you actually speak to the EA's themself.

With any of these companies you will usually save 35% more than hiring NTR, and you will get 1000% more service. There are other legitimate tax relief companies too - JUST BEWARE of WHO you are talking to and THEIR QUALIFICATIONS!

Postings #2 and #5 were without question, written by company employees posting as imaginary happy customers.  Just another reason not to ever trust internet review. 

The tax resolution industry, like the loan modification and debt settlement industry, is comprised of the now, unemployable, subprime mortage brokers.  These companies are sales organization, having no actual knowledge of their proclaimed profession.  They promise the world, knowing the consumer will never actually receive the promised level of service.  The salesmen who answer the phones usually make 6 figure incomes.  If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

I stumbled across this site and wanted to offer up a different perspective. While I can't speak to the claims that Nationwide Tax Relief does not maintain offices in other cities I can speak to their effectiveness as a professional organization.

I ran across this site after doing a search on Nationwide Tax Relief as I happened to catch the company owner, Richard Boggs, on MSNBC yesterday speaking about some new methods being incorporated by the IRS.

I used their services about a year ago and was very thankful for their assistance. I had ton a lot of research on different resolution agencies, starting from the "Pennies on the Dollar" scams heard on the radio, (which isn't Nationwide) and then moving through other more legitimate agencies. I decided on Nationwide for one very basic reason...they didn't attempt to 'snow' me. I was told what my legitimate options were and they offered what I felt to be a very fair and honest assessment of my situation.

Now I'm not a kid and have been around the block a few times in the business world. Yes...I found myself in some dealings with the IRS and also found myself becoming emotional because of it. Not the best way to approach any business situation. Nationwide not only calmed me down but thoroughly explained my best course of action. And then they left it up to me to decide. No hard sell..just the facts. Something I appreciated and responded to.

My dealings with Nationwide were always professional and I felt very well represented. The fact that I entered into an Offer in Compromise that was 'doable,' and something I don't believe I could have come close to attaining on my own, cemented my thoughts that these guys are pros.

Now this isn't a commercial for Nationwide. Make your own decisions based on the information you have acquired through your own research. Your case may be different but I can't speak to that. I can only relay my experience.

Typically I wouldn't write to a site like this but I felt it was important to offer another perspective. Before writing this I browsed around some other reports and my gut tells me that a savvy competitor can write just about anything they want. While it appears this site does a good job of allowing many different perspectives, we've seen the "Yelp" dynamic at play and it may not be any different here.

So at the end of the day, while this site provides a great service it is just one tool in the arsenal. Do your own research and make your own decision. In my case, choosing Nationwide was an excellent business decision.

I used to work for one of the Tax Resolution companies also - not as a salesperson or telephone solicitor, but as the Enrolled Agent who actually did the work. The company I worked with has many complaints here on ROR - most of which are well earned. After I left I continued to work all my accounts to final resolution, without pay.

These companies typically over charge, over promise and under deliver. They are set up to sell their services without regard to the probability of successful resolution. That is why I stopped working with them.

As an EA I have an 80% IRS acceptance rate for the Offers I propose. With he Tax Resolution firm I had less than 10% - the reason is they do nothing to pre-qualify the case and take on cases that actually do not fit IRS guidelines for relief.

In some cases the clients were so uncooperative it was impossible for me to do my job and represent them. The mentality of "I paid you to get my butt out of this mess, then do it" was in these cases pervasive. Of course, when the Offer collapsed these people were the first to complain loud and long. This was the case in about 25% of the cases. Most of the others simply should not have been accepted, but these companies never turn down money.

Yes, you can get an installment Agreement with the IRS on your own, and even an Offer in Compromise, but the chances of a successful resolution are greatly increased with proper representation.

I briefly considered hiring Nationwide Tax Relief. All I needed to do was rework my payment plan. At the time, I was afraid to do this myself. I contacted them via the internet and was contacted. The person who contacted me tried to intimidate me and tell me that the IRS was hard to work with and that I should not represent myself. He also told me I needed to pay them $1800 fast and that there were others lined up ready to get into the firm and I was just holding them up! He was very rude, not at all understanding of my financial situation. (I didn't have that much money and needed help, that's why I called them.) Finally, I got up the nerve and contacted the IRS myself! I was able to do this with NO PROBLEM and have my situation resolved immediately by a lady on the phone who was very kind and understanding. I've been told that if I cannot pay them to contact them immediately and they would work something out for me in the future. I even had a levy on my paycheck lifted right then! I would advise anyone who contacts these tax relief companies to contact the IRS yourself then seek representation if you need it. The description of how these companies operate is right on the mark. I worked for a short time and that's exactly how it's done. The salesman or woman gets all the info and then takes it to someone to review. In my case, it was someone who WAS NOT an attorney but someone who learned from the head accountant/lawyer how to interpret and appropriate "price" how much it would cost. I can't say it is a total scam only because you have no idea if the info given is correct. Only once the person calling faxes or mails in all their info can the lawyers really determine. But, they have your credit card info and start charging you regardless, as was done where I worked.

As for the first rebuttal. The respondent seems a BIT fishy. How exactly did this guy interact with the "owner" of the company. Typically, these guys don't answer phones or deal with the clients unless these clients come in directly and pay an hourly fee for the service. It's all a numbers game and there is never any guarantee that any of these places can help you. All that I know is that the place I worked for in Hollywood was ethical.

Nationwide Tax Relief (NTR) is one of--if not the most reputable--firms in the country. I spent 6 months researching firms that I thought could help me, but more importantly not rip me off. Richard Boggs is not only a great guy who is very warm and friendly, but his dogged determination to get me the best resolution was extremely impressive. NTR did such a great job that I recommended them to friends and family. I would not have done this if I thought for even a second that they were not the right firm to do business with. Also, let's not forget that NTR has been featured on FOX News, the Today Show, and MSNBC. I doubt they would have been on those programs if there was something fishy going on. NTR's headquarters is in Brentwood, Ca. So it makes sense that they have offices in numerous locations that are specifically for serving corporate clients.
