On my July Verizon phone bill there was a charge for $17.90 by ILD Teleservices. I called Verizon customer support and was told this was a charge by another company and they gave me their telephone number, 1-800-775-4610.

I called and was told by Eric that they were a Nationwide Voice Messaging service and that I had singed up for their service. He said the charge of $17.90 was a non refundable set up fee. He gave me a confirmation number and assured me that I would no longer get billed. I told him that this was a fraudulent charge. He told me that he knew my Verizon security question answer, which he correctly told me and he said that he knew the IP address that was used to fill out the form requesting their services, and of course my telephone number.

I again told him this was fraud and that I was not going to pay their charge. I paid my Verizon phone bill except for the $17.90 charge. On my August Verizon phone bill their charge was still on the bill and there was a $5 late fee for not paying the $17.90.

Again I called Nationwide Voice Messaging and explained that I am the VP of a Science Technology Company and was going to report them for fraud. Pam the lady from Nationwide then told me that under duress that she would refund me $15.74 plus taxes but it would take 2 to 3 billing cycles for the credit to show on my Verizon bill.

I reported their company to Verizon. Since I did that I have not been able to view my online bill from Verizon. It may just be just a fluke but I am going back to getting a paper bill and I have changed my security question. I also have an unlisted number and am very cautious about who I give it to.

Nationwide Voice Messaging has personal information on me that only Verizon phone company has, they fraudulently billed me for a service I never signed up for and they told me that they sent me 3 emails that most likely went into my spam filter since the URL that they direct you to in the email is different from who sent the email. They were directing me to EZGreets a website I have never gone to.

Nationwide Voice Messaging setup fee refunded by Verizon Telephone

AUTHOR: Carla - (U.S.A.)

Nationwide Voice Messaging told me that under duress that they would refund the $17.90 setup fee but that it would take 2 to 3 billing cycles until the credit showed on my Verizon bill. I called Verizon and told them this was not right with me and that I did not trust the company and I had already had to pay Verizon a $5 late fee because I refused to pay the $17.90 when it first showed up on my bill and I had informed Verizon this was a fraudulent charge. Well Verizon refunded me the $17.90 that I paid in my second bill so I would not get another late fee. They also refunded the $5 late fee and blocked all third party billing to my phone number. In addition, Verizon notified Nationwide Voice Messaging that they had refunded me the money and late fee.

I never knew that the phone company could block third party billing. I have never seen it on my bill or on their web site. But my advice to consumers is to call your phone company and get third party blocking on your telephone number.

This still does not explain how Nationwide Voice Messaging got my unlisted phone number and the answer to the security question that I use only at Verizon. I have since changed that security question. My husband who is a computer consultant told the Verizon Customer Service Manager that either the security of their database has been compromised or there is an insider that is selling Nationwide Voice Messaging information on customers. Of course Verizon denied it.

The day after I spoke to Verizon I started getting spammed, like 500/day from all over the world. It may just be a coincidence that the spamming started after Verizon spoke to Nationwide. But since I use Mozilla Thunderbird and own my own ISP I was able to automatically delete all of the spam directly off my server.
