Netspend mailed me so called "prepaid debit card", totally unsolicited and without any information on why the sent the card and how they obtained my mailing address.

The only phone number they provide is the activation phone number (1-866-387-7363)... This is very typical of scammers.

Stay away from this company. If you ever receive an unsolicited card like this, don't call the activation phone number! Instead, photocopy the card before destroying it completely. This might serve as evidence in court since I have a feeling that sooner or later the FBI will be involved.

Travis, your rebuttal is not convincing...

AUTHOR: datfp - (USA)

An A+ rating with BBB doesn't mean much anymore... That's why this website was created.

Just search this website (ripoffreport.com) for complaints about the BBB and you'll see what I mean... At least 185 complaints - see:

http://www.ripoffreport.com/Search/Company/Better-Business-Bureau.aspx

Also, above your rebuttal you will find a link to at least 15 complaints about Netspend, some of which contain warnings from people who somehow activated the card and saw how their monthly balance is consumed without a purchase due to monthly fees.

You call this legitimate???

http://www.ripoffreport.com/Search/Company/Netspend-Corporation.aspx

In my opinion, only a person working for Netspend would consider this legitmate...

My warning remains: Stay away from this company. If you ever receive an unsolicited card like this (from Netspend or some other company with similar practices), don't call activation phone number! Instead, photocopy the card before destroying it completely. This might serve as evidence in court...

#3 Consumer Suggestion

Legitimate Card

AUTHOR: Travis - (USA)

This happened to me also.  I received a card from NetSpend not knowing why I got it in the mail.  Apparently certain websites that you visit will send NetSpend your information (thats how they get you name and address) if they think you would be interested in the card.  If you do not want the card you can throw it away or if you will benefit from it you can activate the card.

NetSpend does require your ID information to perform an identification check so even if someone else received the card they would not be able to activate it unless they had your SSN and birth date.

I activated the card and use if for online purchases.  I have not had any problems with it and can assure you that this is a respectable company.  They have an A+ rating with the BBB.

Thank you,
