I filed my income tax using Turbotax and opted to receive my refund on the Netspend system.  I received the card in the mail as stated, and activated said card as instructed.  Upon completion of the activation, I was informed that Card is "ACTIVATED" and your balance is  XXX amount of dollars.  I then went to use this card to make a purchase and card was declined.  I called customer service and they inform me that the card was not fully activated.  I called customer service and they state that for security reasons I would need to fax a copy of Social Security Card, driver's license and utility bill with address for identification verification.  It would then take 2-3 days to fully activate card.  Or I could cancel and they would send me a check in 2-3 weeks, less there handling charges of course.  To protect my identity they want me to supply all of the information to steal it.  Thant makes good sense.

I do believe they are stealing, the same thing happened to my husband and I, we send the information from until today we haven't received our money. They said they would send it to us then they change their mind and said they would send it to the IRS this happened on February and now were almost in June and still nothing here or with the IRS. So you tell me aren't they stealing?

According to Federal Law, any bank or credit/debit card company must verify your identity before allowing you to hold a card with their company. NetSpend is nation wide, with an A rating with the BBB, do you really think they're trying to steal your identity?
