New Jersey Maltese Breeders Pennsylvaniamaltesebreeders.com. I ordered a 3 lb teacup Maltese Puppy, and they sent me a 5 lb Miss Piggy version of her. I paid $1600 for a tiny dog. Buyer Beware! It was almost twice the size I expected to get. Internet

I am an animal lover in Sea Bright, NJ, and I decided to adopt a new puppy. I was looking for a companion for one of my animals, and I saw this adorable little puppy online, and called to ask about her.  The company, NJ Maltese Breeders, was initially very responsive, and assured me that this puppy was only 3 lbs and that she should be able ship to me in 2-3 days.

I was in for a surprise.  The puppy was much larger and did not arrive for nine days. Instead of picking up the little angel who matched the photograph, I was delivered a Miss Piggy version of the puppy, who was nearly twice her size.  This dog was much too large for a companion for my other dog, and my cats are small, and they were afraid of her too.

I tried to contact NJ Maltese Breeders for 24 hours via email and phone, with no response. I was able to return the dog, with persistence, nagging, complaining, and commitment. I put her on a plane back to the breeder without an approval for a refund, as I could not keep this dog. It was a very stressful weekend ordeal, not to mention costly.  Dealing with an online adoption company is much more difficult than it appears at the outset.

In this case, the online adoption company represents many different breeders, and it seems that the effort to make the sale of the dog includes telling small fibs just to make the sale.

Finally, the company would not agree to a refund. They insisted the only way was a replacement puppy.  I refused to do this again.   I threatened to put out a press release on the story, wrote one and sent it to them, and they then agreed to refund my $1500.  I was still out the shipping costs of $400, and other costs of $200 for transportation back and forth to the airport and other incidentals.

They are just a marketing company that wants to place pets.  They misrepresent the facts, and the person adopting the pet gets the short end of the deal.  Beware of online adoptions.  I will never do it again.  I was lucky.  I was almost out $2000.  I am a tough business woman who negotiates well, and these folks made me tired.  Stay away from them.  I recommend staying local for your pet needs.  I learned my lesson.

Oh, you're a Breeder

AUTHOR: Kathleen - ()

Well no wonder you are so upset.  Makes perfect sense.  I have no need to further my communication with you.  I take exceptional care of my pets, and your communication is inhumane.  You may love animals, but you hate people.  I am disabling my email from the system and getting off of ripoff report.  Good Luck to you!  I hope that you continue to love animals as much as you do.  The world is lucky to have such an animal lover!

why so crude

AUTHOR: pino - ()

it seems that you are the one that should get a life. you complain that we are rebutting a 4 yr old story, but youre the person still reading ot. N o matter what kind of dog ypu ordered you should never complaine that a dog was 2lbs more than you expected and then lable and call her Ms Piggy. Shame on you. Dont grandstand with self praise years later and tell us what wonderfull work you are doing with your non profit and dont tell us how ill you were that you could not get to a shelter or store and buy a puppy because you were too sick because you managed to get to where the pup was to pick her up and then ship her back.

For the words Ms Piggy to even emote from your mouth in regard to a puppy that you bought from a puppy mill is deplorable and then for you to send her back to a mill is beyound comprehension. Where do you think this pup came from as Breeders do not sell their pups to 3rd parties. So youre an evil person that probably should not ever have the privilage and responsibility to care for animals.  What do u do if your pup eats too much or pees on your floor do u starve her and lock her up

By the way, N.J Dog Breeders is a Puppy Broker. No Breeder sells to a 3rd party or Dog Store. We must meet the people, go into contract and visit the potential home for the pet

So judgmental

AUTHOR: Kathleen - ()

Wow, and you are a judmental one. So, everyone should do things the way you do them?  You do not know me, what I am about, or what was going on  in my life at the time this happened.  I was simply reporting that getting a dog online is not a good thing to do, and that the dogs can be different than what you expect when you call to get one.  I did not have the liberty of going to look at the dog.  I was disabled.

It was terribly unfortunate for the poor little dog, but I was not going to keep a dog that I did not want.  You are you.  I am me.  I paid $1600 for a teacup dog, and this was not what I wanted.  Bully for you that you would have done something different.  So what?  What are you Gods gift to the world and so much better than anyone else?  You are the only one who can make the right choice for herself?  That is selfish.  Judging others and not having a real understanding of what is going on.  And you know what?  I forgive you for your comments.

Miss Piggy

PS--By any chance, are you overweight?  Maybe that is why you are so sensitive to the term Miss Piggy.  It just means overweight.

Who do you think you are?

AUTHOR: Kathleen - ()

Well, it seems that you have a rather high opinion of yourself and what you think.  Yes, as a matter of fact, four years ago, when I sent in this report, I was terribly terribly sick and bedridden most of the day.  It was not possible for me to go out and go to a kennel. That is why I got a playmate for my dog online I ordered a playmate for my dog, and it was supposed to be a teacup puppie.  If I had wanted a dog that large, I could have got one for a lot less.  I wanted a tiny dog.  And I did get one.  Her name is Madonna and she is 5 lbs full grown and the love of my life.

It was very unfortunate that the poor little dog they sent me had to be sent back.  That was not my fault.  It was the fault of the people who misrepresented the dog online.

Yes, I was terribly miserable.  I was diagnosed with a multitude of diseases, and the dogs were for my companionship while I healed.   I have since recovered, am much less miserable, and do appreciate your comment about Miss Piggy. I was just mad at the company who had misrepresented the dog.  She was well taken care of while in my possession.

I made a miraculous recovery, founded a nonprofit organization (probably more than you have done in your life), and help people recover their health. I have two darling Maltese pups that I love more than life itself, and probably more than you love your own dogs.  You need to find something else to do on a Sunday afternoon.  This is a four year old blog.  Geet a life!

Miss Piggy ??

AUTHOR: pino - ()

Why would you call a puppy Miss Piggy ?? Shame on you !!. Firstly if you were so terribly interested in the size of the puppy you should have driven to their kennel and viewed the puppy before you laid out money. For you to put a puppy through the trama of flying back and forth is not thinking of the wellfare of the pup. So the pup was 6 lbs instead of 3; so what ?/ But for you to call a puppy Miss Piggy id horrible. You were not interested in a playmate for your dog, you just wanted a tiny dog and for that you should have gotten off your tush and done your homework. Dont ever call any puppy Miss Piggy. Are you that perfect in appearance that a plastic surgeon would not change your nose, your chin or somthing else on your body. Theres no such thing as a fat puppy you fool. Puppies come in all sizes and its possible that the smaller pup would have grown larger than the ''Miss Piggy'' that you received. However, and most importantly for you to call a puppy Miss Piggy is probably not an abhorition, your propably a miserable person.

Poor puppy

AUTHOR: commoncents2000 - (United States of America)

ANIMAL LOVER????  Because the poor thing was possibly 3 pounds larger than you thought - you called her/him the "Miss Piggy version" and shipped him/her back.  If you're looking for a companion for your dog - why would you do anything like that online???  Why don't you look locally, then introduce the dogs to see how they are together, then make the decision whether to bring the new dog into the family.

All I see when I read this is someone who came across a cute pic of a maltese online - apparantly has disposable income to fly the innocent pup to you, insulted the poor thing (hope you at least treated "Miss Piggy" well while under your care) then ship her right back.

When  got my maltese 11 years ago, she was supposed to end up being 4 pounds.  Within a week I found out she had kennel cough, worms, intestinal disorder and a skin fungal infection.  I contacted the breeder and she told me to bring her back and I will get a refund.  I couldn't do this - I knew if  brought her back she would more than likely be put down because she would not be able to be sold due to her conditions.  I took care of everything to make her a healthy girl again - and reported the breeder.  She even ended up being over 7 pounds - not the 4 pounds I was expecting.  It's not a huge difference.  It's been 11 years of happiness - and counting.  Because I am an animal lover, I wanted what was best for the living, breathing, loyal new friend I was so lucky to obtain.

All I can do is shake my head at people who claim to be animal lovers and then put an animal thru so much because of their own selfishness.  To love an animal is to respect it as well.
