New Jersey Maltese Breeders Pennsylvaniamaltesebreeders.com. I ordered a 3 lb teacup Maltese Puppy, and they sent me a 5 lb Miss Piggy version of her. I paid $1600 for a tiny dog. Buyer Beware! It was almost twice the size I expected to get. Internet

I am an animal lover in Sea Bright, NJ, and I decided to adopt a new puppy. I was looking for a companion for one of my animals, and I saw this adorable little puppy online, and called to ask about her.  The company, NJ Maltese Breeders, was initially very responsive, and assured me that this puppy was only 3 lbs and that she should be able ship to me in 2-3 days.

I was in for a surprise.  The puppy was much larger and did not arrive for nine days. Instead of picking up the little angel who matched the photograph, I was delivered a Miss Piggy version of the puppy, who was nearly twice her size.  This dog was much too large for a companion for my other dog, and my cats are small, and they were afraid of her too.

I tried to contact NJ Maltese Breeders for 24 hours via email and phone, with no response. I was able to return the dog, with persistence, nagging, complaining, and commitment. I put her on a plane back to the breeder without an approval for a refund, as I could not keep this dog. It was a very stressful weekend ordeal, not to mention costly.  Dealing with an online adoption company is much more difficult than it appears at the outset.

In this case, the online adoption company represents many different breeders, and it seems that the effort to make the sale of the dog includes telling small fibs just to make the sale.

Finally, the company would not agree to a refund. They insisted the only way was a replacement puppy.  I refused to do this again.   I threatened to put out a press release on the story, wrote one and sent it to them, and they then agreed to refund my $1500.  I was still out the shipping costs of $400, and other costs of $200 for transportation back and forth to the airport and other incidentals.

They are just a marketing company that wants to place pets.  They misrepresent the facts, and the person adopting the pet gets the short end of the deal.  Beware of online adoptions.  I will never do it again.  I was lucky.  I was almost out $2000.  I am a tough business woman who negotiates well, and these folks made me tired.  Stay away from them.  I recommend staying local for your pet needs.  I learned my lesson.

Poor puppy

ANIMAL LOVER????  Because the poor thing was possibly 3 pounds larger than you thought - you called her/him the "Miss Piggy version" and shipped him/her back.  If you're looking for a companion for your dog - why would you do anything like that online???  Why don't you look locally, then introduce the dogs to see how they are together, then make the decision whether to bring the new dog into the family.

All I see when I read this is someone who came across a cute pic of a maltese online - apparantly has disposable income to fly the innocent pup to you, insulted the poor thing (hope you at least treated "Miss Piggy" well while under your care) then ship her right back.

When  got my maltese 11 years ago, she was supposed to end up being 4 pounds.  Within a week I found out she had kennel cough, worms, intestinal disorder and a skin fungal infection.  I contacted the breeder and she told me to bring her back and I will get a refund.  I couldn't do this - I knew if  brought her back she would more than likely be put down because she would not be able to be sold due to her conditions.  I took care of everything to make her a healthy girl again - and reported the breeder.  She even ended up being over 7 pounds - not the 4 pounds I was expecting.  It's not a huge difference.  It's been 11 years of happiness - and counting.  Because I am an animal lover, I wanted what was best for the living, breathing, loyal new friend I was so lucky to obtain.

All I can do is shake my head at people who claim to be animal lovers and then put an animal thru so much because of their own selfishness.  To love an animal is to respect it as well.
