I have watched Shiloh Shepherd dogs for over 20 years and always dreamed of owning such a magnificent animal. I decided to pay my money down to secure a position in a particular upcoming breeding. I waited and waited because the attempts at pregnancy never took hold.

After months of this, Lisa Barber of New Zion Shilohs and I started to look at another litter for a puppy for me. I found one with the right temperament, color, etc. This was Light Blue Boy from a Killer / Captain pairing. Lisa informed me that there was a slight irritation in one eye and casually explained to me that it was likely a speck of sand or something causing a very temporary irritation. I asked her specifically several times about the eye as to whether it was definitely a temporary thing or something that would cause more problems. She assured me everything would be okay.

I decided to take this puppy. I had him for two months and had nothing but problems with parasites and an eye problem that was NOT getting any better. When I took the puppy to the eye specialist, I was told this was NOT a temporary irritation. I was a situation that required surgery. The Doctor also told me that the cornea already had slight damage. Hairs were growing UNDER the eyelid, causing irritation every time he blinked. This irritation I was told, would lead to blindness (at least to the point of looking through wax paper).

Even Lisa Barber's veterinarian acknowledges in the SHIPPING DOCUMENTATION that the eye problem was questionable and needed a little time to tell if the problem would resolve. Ms. Barber let this animal ship to me with foreknowledge of a defect in the animal, thus selling me damaged goods.

My little girls and I were heartbroken when I had to make the decision to give the dog up for adoption. The initial surgery would be $2,700.00. The doctor said that may not be the only one. I did not have the money and Las Barber refused to pay for it. I offered to have her pay for the surgery and I would ask for no further compensation, but was denied. It could be thousands more in the future. I am not willing to pay for the ignorance of New Zion Shiloh

My position is that Las Barber of New Zion Shilohs sold me damaged goods with undeniable foreknowledge and forethought. I paid $1,550.00 for the dog, $450.00 for shipping and $1,000.00 in costs for housing the puppy and all the vet bills I incurred. This does not even come close to the emotional trauma this has caused myself and my children. I could not realistically keep a dog that might be a money pit over the next few years. I re-homed the dog with no compensation because of his medical problem.

In conclusion I feel I have the right to compensation of the minimum out of pocket expenses of $3,000.00

Can't sell a damaged dog

AUTHOR: David - ()

POSTED: Monday, November 18, 2013

I gave this dog away. He now has pancreatic condition that will last the dogs lifetime. Just a little icing on the cake, huh? He will never reach his weight potential of what a male Shiloh should be. You are a breeder? Figures. You know nothing about me and the circumstances surrounding the purchase of this dog. Along with the physical problems, Lisa Barber will lock you out of phone and emails when there is a problem. I am out $3000 PLUS I get the pleasure of your rudeness. My kids didn't get to have any pleasure from this dog for the time we had him because he was so full of bacteria he never stopped having diarrhea while I had him. I did everything correctly as far as vets and when to do it. Get over myself? You lose $3000 and have everyone tell you that you were wrong in the situation when a PROFESSIONAL breeder (I thought) sells you a sick dog that will never get well. You people need to get over your selves as judge and jury and pretending you have such a wonderful breed. AVOID NEW ZION SHILOHS AT ALL COST!!

Excessive Vet charges

I am sorry, but it sounds like you made some poor choices. Yes the puppy had a genetic defect, and being's its pretty rare, I am sure she didn't even know what was wrong with him.

Its called a Dermoid. Its almost like a tumor.. you might not even notice it if it where not for the hairs growing over time. I have had this happen in a litter of puppies, this is how I know about it. My puppy was also already sold, and I thought he had shavings in the eye.. I examined it closer and seen the hairs.. googled and found out what it was.. went to my Vet.. he gave me 2 options.. go to the specialist or let him try.. I opted to let my Vet go ahead and do the surgery.. It went well, and only cost me $300. This happened 1 time, in 40 years of breeding.. so rare !!

If your Vet wanted to charge you $3000, he either has major ovehead and your Vet bills in your area are super high.. or he thinks your a dummy. Your complaining about the price yet you didn't do the surgery..

Its a buyers responciblity to have a puppy checked within a certian amount of time after having it home, if you didn't do that I feel you waved your rights to compain about the breeder. Are you unaware of pet health insurance ? You don't get compinsated for taking care of 'Your' dog. That's rediculous for you even to ask for $1000 for the 'time and care' .. get over yourself. You got a pet dog, the dog is still a pet dog that your family got to enjoy. If you choose to sell it, that's also your choice and probably better for the dog. To me it seems your sorry you got a live animal that needed care.. just petty (smh).
