I spent a little over $1900 dollars on parts for a Xeon System build. Most everything looked fine out of the box, but when I installed the motherboard, I got a nice little CATT LED lit red telling me that the board was dead. This is an ASUS Z9PE-D16/2L SSI EEB Server Motherboard with Dual Xeon LGA 2011 sockets. So I sent in the RMA request to swap out the motherboards -I just figure I got a bad one. It happens from time to time.

Now before I go any further. I am an IT Manager, and this build was for my own personal system. I've been a Comptia certified A+ service technician since 1996. I'm not a hobby pc builder --I do technology work for a living. Keep that in mind when you read the response their RMA department sent back about the board. And I quote:

"Motherboard was received with apparent end-user caused physical damage to CPU socket contact pins, received with signs of installation. [continued below]....

..... Items received with physical damage cannot be processed by Newegg and voids our return policy. End-user would need to contact the product manufacture for direct support."

Now I read this, and that really didn't make sense. The bottom of the cpu is a flat surface. The contacts touch the cpu on it's underside and it's held in place by the socket to maintain the connection. There's nothing for a pin to catch on in order to get bent, not to mention the fact that the notches in the cpu make it impossible for you to place it in the socket incorrectly because it won't seat against the bottom properly. It's also made of silicone. Bending a Pin with this kind of cpu is nearly impossible.

Do a google search on "newegg rma ripoff" and you will find that I am not the only person who's been hit with that particular tactic.

Did contact them, but no response back

AUTHOR: William W. - ()

I did contact them at the email address they put in their rebuttal like they asked. However, I didn't receive any kind of response. It's a nice sentiment when they claim that someone will take a look at it, but nothing happens. I didn't even receive any kind of acknowledgement that they received it or a contact name or anything.
