I've read many of the compliants on this website, and while I was a little surprised by the number of people who are fed up with Nextel, I guess I'm not really that surprised. Here is some of my story. In July 2003 I decided it was time to get a new cell phone service(I had Cricket before). My boyfriend had gotten Nextel about a year before because a lot of people at his work had it and it was more convinent for him at work.
We went to the Nextel representative in the mall we talked to the representative and because I hadn't really established any credit yet so I was going to have to pay $500.00 to recieve the service, they said I would get it back in a year as long as I paid my bill. Well I had just graduated from high school so I didn't really have an extra $500.00 to pay for a phone. What we ended up doing was putting the phone on his account and I paid him every month for the bill.
After the first month we decided I was going to need more minutes, we called in and changed the plan from 300 to 500 anytime minutes. They said it would only cost about $5.00 more per month so we went with that. Well the next month rolls around and the bill comes and guess what....they never changed it. We called again and they had no record of us even calling. They said they would change the plan for the next month, but I had to sign a new year contract, which was ok because I had only had it for a month.
After that everything was fine for about 6 months, gradually the service or lack there of started to go downhill. I would have full service then I would go to make a call and would completly lose service. This happened all the time. I took my phone to a technician to see if maybe it had something wrong with it, he didn't find anything. When the new i730 phone came out my boyfriend bought it and had to sign a new contract, this was this past November 03'. Well about a month ago he called Nextel to see when my contract was up and while he was checking he asked about his, well they told him that his had been up since January 04' when he just signed a new contract in Nov. Mine isn't over until September, but I signed the contract in July, go figure. Well he cancelled his service and got Verizon which I must say has impressed me very much so far. My contract expires September 10, and my 21st b-day is the 13th, I think I'm looking more forward to the contract expiring than my birthday, that's pretty sad.
When it expires I'm going to run like hell away from this awful company, after reading some of these stories that my be easier said than done.
