I searched the web for a trucking job and found Nocona Transport. I called and spoke to Jeff Lawrence, CEO, and he told me that he wanted me to start right away. He sent me a drug test packet and once he received my results, he arranged for one of his drivers to pick me up to take me to "my" truck. He told me that I would get my own truck and pay the lease and pay the fuel. The lease amount he told me turned out to be much less than what was deducted from my paycheck, so he lied.

My first trip was 1147 miles from Mullins, SC to Leavenworth, KS, he told me the trip paid $2000 but my paystub states $1440 and I received $620.03.

My second trip was 2096 miles from Carrollton, TX to Redmond, WA, he told me it paid $2500 and my check was for $250.55. During this trip, the truck got stuck on a curb by a tight entrance to a parking lot and after I successfully lifted the trailer with a guy and his forklift, I started to experience severe chest pain, nausea, shortness of breath and almost passed out. After I delivered the trailer, I called Jeff and told him that this job is not for me and that I would take one more and then go home.

My third trip was 2346 miles from Puyallup, WA to Wichita Falls, TX, he told me it paid $3500 but my paystub states $3312 and I received a check for $0.00.

My current employer's operations slowed down and I could not afford to stay home for 2-3 weeks without income. I usually average between $1200 to $1800 take home per week, which is the industry standard. Nocona was the same as no income, and it also almost cost my life. I believe Jeff owes me at least $3500.

I cannot understand how Jeff can expect a driver to drive 2000 miles over three days and get little or no money!! I spoke to three other drivers and they are getting paid the same as I was! Nocona is the biggest ripoff!!

CONFUSED FORMER DRIVER

AUTHOR: NOCONATRANS - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 29, 2012

When we contract a new driver, we always go over the contract & the pay system numerous times while they are here in orientation. We provide everything in writing several times. Our drivers are paid 72% of the Load gross. minus fuel & weekly fixed costs for their truck & trailer leases. This former driver who did not bother to share his name, Marcel Joyal, is very confused on where he was & what he did. He states he started in Mullins, SC. We never dispatched him to Mullins, SC. In fact one of my drivers picked him up in Cookeville, TN & transported him to Paducah, KY to take over a truck of ours there & take a load to Leavenworth, KS, then deadhead to Wichita Falls to do orientation & be assigned to his new truck as promised. We did not charge truck or trailer lease costs for the truck he drove on those 2 legs. In fact, we only deducted or fuel, & paid him the difference.. $2000 x 72% = $1440 - 819.97(fuel) = $620.03 net pay. This driver is obviously very confused. He stated starting in a city he was never in while with our company, he stated we ripped him off with his 1st check, which we clearly did not. In fact we could have charged for 2 days of truck & trailer lease costs, but as a courtesy, we did not.. This driver is also confused about industry standards. Drivers nationally average $475-700 per week in take home pay. This driver had the potential to do more than double that on a regular basis, but only stayed a little over a week & never gave our program a chance to work for him. Let me be clear, this is not a company driver job. It is a 1099 Lease Contractor job. This driver had all the details explained to him numerous times before coming to work, while in orientation & again after signing on. Everything was in writing, his settlements were clear & concise, his dispatches were sent to him with the money breakdown prior to each load. We could not have been more clear. This driver either does not know how to read, or use a calculator. He also does not appear to know what he is doing or where he is. As for his medical issues while in Redmond, WA. He makes it sound like we caused him to have chest pains, shortness of breath & nausea. That is physically impossible. It sounds to me like he has health issues that he has ignored & wants to blame someone else for. If he had those problems for real, why did he not check himself into a hospital? i believe he has serious mental & physical issues that he failed to share with our company & when things did not go as he perceived they would, he did what a lot of people these days do, BLAME SOMEONE ELSE! it is clear to me he needs some kind of help or he lives in a dream world about how contracts work & what things cost. It is a shame people like him can go online & openly slander good companies like ours. My drivers average between $950-1400 take home weekly all year long. That would not be possible if we did not have a proven system that has worked for over 10 years. It is a shame some people cannot take personal responsibility for their own actions & decisions.
