***   ALERT   ***  Do not buy from the following store!

As a consumer advocate I must make you aware of a store in Alaska that charges extremely high prices. An item was purchased for $150.00. The price paid was to include a 15% discount, because it was considered a floor sample. After further research this same item could be purchased new for $53.99. Within 2 days I noticed that the eyepiece also had a minor defect. Within 5 days of purchase the owner was contacted in hopes of resolving the two concerns.

The owner Ken Hausinger gave multiple excuses for charging high prices. He claims that it cost more for shipping to Alaska. He claims that paying $10 per sq. ft. rate and being open only 5 months per year justifies his high prices. He also said As for a refund or credit to your credit card, that will not happen. As for the defect with the product, he recommended sending it to Bushnell.

According to Bushnell, the manufacturer's suggested retail price within the US should be $96.95. They also indicated that should be able to find the product for a lot less than the suggested retail price in stores, but it should not cost more. The box of the $150.00 product had two price labels, one on top of the other. After removing the top label, the original price was marked $95.23.

This type of business survives on tourism and uninformed consumers. I usually recommend to do business with local businesses, but not in this case.

Your serious?

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

Well first I am not the owner, employee or have any relationship to this company.

I am pretty impressed that you know so much about the economic conditions in Alaska.  As it seems that you know better than an actual business in Alaska about the cost of doing business in Alaska.  I noticed you didn't seem to have a problem to pay that when you bought it.  Did they force you to buy it?  Did they say that you couldn't research the price before you bought it?

What most likely happened is that you were traveling in Alaska. You either forgot or had something break that you wanted to use. So you go to a store and purchase an item. So you use this on your trip and once you didn't need them anymore you "notice" a minor defect. You do this so you have a justification to return the item.

You would not be the first person who "bought" something with the intention of returning them after you were done. People who do this are really thinking who does this hurt. In your mind you get a free "rental", the store is out no money as they get credit when they return the "damaged" item to the vendor, and who cares about the manufacturer because they make enough money anyways right?

You wonder why "restocking fees" started. It is because people would try things such as the above, especially on electronic items. So stores were loosing too much money and had to stop this "lending" mindset that a few had.

I am waiting for your complaint on your local movie theaters who charge you $4 for a drink you can get at other places for $0.99. Then on how your local convinience store sells things at a huge markup. And we will all be waiting on the edge of our seats waiting for your report on a Gas Station that is selling gas for more than a station down the street.

Nice try from the owner

AUTHOR: Consumer Advocate - (U.S.A.)

Some of the comments made from person above could only have been made by the owner. Its using information that has not been published, but was discussed in our original emails to the company owner.

He is making the same comments on other sites. It only goes to show you how low this place is willing to go.

get a clue!!!

AUTHOR: idontknow - (USA)

Uhhhh... hello mr. "consumer advocate." do you think your local grocer pays 69 cents a pound for his bananas and sells them to you at no profit? I don't think so. If I were this Ken man, I wouldn't give your money back either. Obviously, as others have stated on your other report, you didn't do your homework.

And.... how can you complain when you get name of the establishment where you made your purchase WRONG???
