The law says that the NYC Civil Court does not have a long enough arm to reach beyond the five boros of the City, unless there are some very special conditions present. They are not present here, but you need a lawyer to present this defense to the court.
I have done this enough times that I have to charge only (a) to verifyo that you are not a New Yorker, (b) change the name of the victim from the last time I did this and (c) three trips to court: to file the papers, for the first hearing (when papers are handed up to the judge) and for the oral argument. That's how I do it inexpensively. I make this "guarantee:" if the case is not thrown out of court immediately, I will maintain the defense of the case without charging an additional fee. (I'll explain how this works if you contact me.)
