Oakwood Management Group is out there to steal your money!!  PLEASE contact the California Attorney General!!

THEY contacted us and asked if we wanted to sell our timeshare.  Since we hadn't used it for a couple years, we decided to see what they were offering, since most timeshare buyers make YOU pay to take it off you hands, and these guys were offering to pay US.

I thought I did a thorough investigation of this company, no BBB complaints, phone numbers went to actual people, and the website looks legit, so we signed an agreement for them to sell our timeshare.  THey indicated they had a buyer already and offered us a fair price.  First we had to pay a State sales tax of about $3000 and send it to the Mexican bank (DON'T EVER DO THIS).  Next we were told that the sale wouldn't go through unless we paid a State tax of another approximately $2000.  They did say, however, that since these fees were not disclosed to us, we would get reimbursed for the fees.  So we paid that and then they came back saying we needed to pay an Excise tax of an additional $2000.  At that point we said we were out of the deal and because none of these fees were disclosed we expected to get all our money back.

We haven't heard another word from them.  I kept calling my contacts and they were always in meetings or on the phone.  When I did get ahold of one of the individuals, he was very rude and hung up on me. This all happened in January and February.

I contacted the Iowa Attorney General who forwarded my complaint to the California Attonrey General.  They said that beause money was sent to Mexico, there is nothing California can do.  PLEASE -- if this happens to you, contact the California Attorney General so they can have a record of this sleezy group.  Maybe if there are enough complaints something can be done to them.  The Attorney General said that the BBB had no complaints against them and neither did they, so PLEASE contact them.

Timeshare Resale Scams

AUTHOR: janie78j - ()

Timeshare fraud has been around since the timeshare idea was created, but they increase during poor economy. When times are difficult, timeshare owners are stuck with properties they can´t travel to or even afford. Desperate to recoup some money to pay for bills, they can easily become victims to scams artists pretending to be their timeshare salvation who will take upfront fees -as much as five number figures in some cases- but fail to fulfill their promise.
Thanks for the warning about this company, i'd highly recommend you to read these articles from Mexican Timeshare Solutions about timeshare scams and how to get out of one: http://www.timesharescam.com/
