Sent an email on January 4 requesting partial refund for my founding membership fees due to illness, had not sold or posted anything since May of 2007 and could not due to illness (breast cancer).

Was sent an email quoting policy as a response to my request. What kind of consideration is this for a company who claims that they care so much about their clients and offer personalized customer service??

I think people should be made aware of what type of company they are dealing with and do some research before hitting that submit buttom.

Not to put too fine of a point on it, but....

AUTHOR: ReactorCore - (Canada)

Why should any business care if you have breast cancer?

Did you try any other approaches other than just "gimme money"? If I were a merchant, I'd be pretty offended that someone thought I owed them something, just because I had a disease.

There are lots of companies out there that will suspend services at your request (which would be reasonable) if you are going to be out of the loop for a time, thus stopping you from accruing more costs, but to ask for special dispensation is actually pretty selfish. Why should you be given a refund anyway? Did you not use the service to that point?

Cancer is a disease, not an excuse or a free ticket for a sympathy ride. Yes, it's not nice, I've lost two parents to it, both within a year of each other (so, please, no "you don't know what it's like!" BS from you, please), but never, ever did they consider that they should be treated special, even during the height of their illnesses...

They knew what they were responsible for and paid their bills, even from their hospital beds. They understood their duties.

I, myself, was hospitalized for major, and I mean major, surgery. I requested 5 days of leniency from my property management regarding my rent as I was on my back with my guts slit open after losing an organ and a half from my body. My request was denied (so again, no "you don't know what it's like!" BS from you).

Did it make me happy? No. Did I understand that I was not entitled to any special consideration? YES. I sucked it up and lived with it. You should do the same.

Often, no one expects to get a disease or be hospitalized, but it happens. Outside of yourself, life goes on. Businesses have to continue to survive and will not have time to mollycoddle people because life's gotten tough. Altruism is nice for businesses that can afford it, but it should not be expected nor demanded. Deal with it, please.

Your little screed is the same as so many others...

"You can't do that to me, I'M PREGNANT!"
"You can't do that to me, I'M A VETERAN!"
"You can't do that to me, I'M ON DISABILITY!"
"You can't do that to me, I'M A SINGLE MOM!"
"You can't do that to me, I'M WORKING POOR!"
"You can't do that to me, I JUST LOST MY JOB!"

There's more, but you get the idea.

YOU are responsible for dealing with your own condition and the changes that will arise from it. No one else. Outside of the law, no one owes you a thing.

Just so you know, I'm just an average person.. I work a blue collar job, living pretty much hand to mouth and I work in really crappy conditions just so I can put a roof over my head and food in my tummy... As said, I don't expect anyone else to look after my well being, no matter what I go through.

I think it's actually you who has "no ethics", since you seem to think that people owe you something just because you're sick and you think you should get a free ride above the rules.

LIES, LIES, AND MORE LIES. Said they never received a phone call from my brother to cancel auctions!!!!

AUTHOR: Pattde - (U.S.A.)

This is an update to the report that was filed in January. James McCallister and Chris Fain refused to issue a partial refund for the period that I was too ill to use the services due to breast cancer. My brother had called and talked to Joyce and asked to cancel all my auctions, since I did not know when I would be able to start selling again.

On 3 3/ 09 I received an email from Joyce asking "Hello Pattde, Hope you are feeling better! are you home? Regards Joyce@customerservice" This was my response......"Hi Joyce, I am home now but will be going back in the hospital soon for more surgery as soon as other testing is completed. Trying to tie up loose ends. Will keep you posted." They lied and said they never received a phone call and again referred to the Policy stating that there were no refunds.

This company has no ethics, none whatsoever to speak of. All they are interested in is taking your money with no advertising other than that which you will do yourself, no google exposure unless you do your own feeds, no anything that is essential to building a ecommerce business. All you receive is a mass of broken promises and a dent in your bank account..

Please, if you are considering joining OLA, please make sure you do enough research to find out if this is what you want to spend your hard earned dollars on. Don't be swayed by something that looks too good to be true. This is not a viable alternative to ebay, I sold on ebay since 1996 and left last year when I hooked up with OLA. What a huge mistake!!! The owner and or employees still sell on ebay which isn't saying too much for their company!!! STAY AWAY!!!!!
