Accused grow-operator in court Martin van den Hemel, Staff Reporter A 45-year-old Richmond man was in court this week, facing accusations of operating one of the largest marijuana grow operations ever busted by
the Richmond RCMPs drug squad.
Donald Antle appeared in Richmond Provincial Court Tuesday, facing two drug charges, with the second and final day of testimony expected tobe delivered March 12.
Last February, Antle, dressed in business attire, was arrested after two undercover police officers spotted him exiting and locking up a warehouse at 12040 Vulcan Way. Police had been conducting surveillance on the buil ding for a couple of days after acting on a CrimeStoppers tipleft a couple of months earlierthat there was marijuana being grown inside.
Inside Antles pocket was a rolled up wad of $20s, $50s and $100s.
Police found 2,700 marijuana plants valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars inside the warehouse, which had been leased since 1998 by Antle.
Antle has been charged with cultivation of a narcotic and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. A cultivating conviction carries a maximum seven-year sentence, while possession for
trafficking is punishable with life imprisonment.
