The other side of the story
AUTHOR: old timer - (Canada)

He signed a contract with OTR understanding his responsibilities and those of OTR and breach it after 7 weeks. He was barely working by choice, he missed many days and loads thus costing him money. He wasn't prepared to be a professional owner operator of a truck. He crys about OTR sticking it to him and his family, but he in turn did the same thing to himself and family.
Regarding bounced cheques and fighting over monies, he failed to mention how OTR covered his fuel, insurance and helped with his lease when he was behind. OTR got screwed by him as well. The marriage between both parties was doomed to happen. OTR couldn't give him enough money to cover his debt, he would have to work over 100 hours per week if not more. He was broke when he walked in the door, and OTR is held responsible for taking him on.
No the situation is not right and if there is a fraud that occurred it is not with OTR, but the company that sold Mr Ali (which he doesn't hardly mention) and his dishonestly or inability to honour a contract that he signed. There is an escape clause that he could have brought into play if he read his contract and acted upon it.
The staff and Mr Meyers did care about this man but he made it most difficult to communicate with him to find out exactly what his situation was. This man tells only half truths not the whole story, shame on Mr. Ali and those that buy into his complaint.

See The Facts For Yourself, Tom

Good day
I do not see any reason why you should disengaged yourself from OTR, especially, considering the fact that you were the person representing the organization with its owner-operators.
You neither interviewed me, nor hired me, nor we shook hands on my last day, I shook hands with RON, not you, TOM. I met you only after I wrote a notice of separation to OVER THE ROAD because of under-pay, early November 2011. As a matter of fact, I was treated with humiliation while picking up my last two pay-cheques. You treated me as if you dont know me.
About a month ago, I wrote you a second letter (sent by fax) raising the issue of under-pay again, $15.50 for GTA pickup & delivery and $70.00 for Windsor and Leamington. So far, no action has been taken other than that you sent me an E-mail acknowledging receiving the fax letter and passing
it on to the accounting department.
Early November we had a meeting in the office concerning the same issue Under-Pay, you fully agreed with me that a tractor-trailer should not be sent for $17.50 job or out-of-town jobs without a haul-back, and you promised that you will rectify this problem. Did you fulfill your promise? You cant say you did, because the rates in the following pay-reports had dropped to less
than those earlier rates.
Your company had deducted from my pay 50% of motel cost. It is not only wrong to do so, but your company neither paid for lay-over charges, nor paid for 12 hours wait time in London, ON.
Your company has sent my truck with a 53 foot trailer to do a residential delivery without any unloading equipment, not only that but my truck was sent to pick up a pump-truck from somewhere else, use the pump-truck to unload and then return it back. All that without compensation for mileage, wait-time, and unloading charges. Alfonso promised me compensation, but no
compensation received. On the contrary, I was not even paid the usual regular charge.
If I carry on then this letter will be too long, and it will lose its meaning. Should you like to understand my position then just look into my letter which you have acknowledged receiving.
I had no intention to slander you or your name, I didnt even know your last name to slander it. I just stated the fact the way I felt it is, with no intention to dishonor anybody. For your information, someone named Richard, possibly that was Richard Meyers, called me yesterday, January 9th,
2012, at 3:41 pm, threatening me and demanding a withdrawal of my report from Rip-Off website. Do you call this courteous and civilized behavior? Certainly not. A man of his caliber and responsibilities should know well Not to make threatening statements or remarks I didnt decide what to do with his threat, yet.
I stand firm behind what I said about the under-pay and rip-off OTR doing to its
owner-operators, I have enough supporting documents and reasons for my claim.
I, really, wish that we could have met at better circumstances, and hoping that your company will pay me all the short-pays, then and only then I shall amend my report with Rip-Off website.
Wish you well and best regards,
Amir

I am not a shield for this company and I don't like to be accused as being a person who isn't honest with drivers. I told you in your interview about the job and what was expected of you and also if you weren't happy to speak with me. You couldn't be bothered and just quit.
Now that you have plastered my name in a Rip Off report you have crossed the line with me. As you are aware your comments cannot be removed and I will have to seek legal help to clear my name at your cost. If you want to prevent this action please contact me, or as they say I will see you in court. This is not a threat but a promise.

Ron: If you say Ali and the others were not telling the truth then tell me why did you guys rip me off
AUTHOR: Amir - (Canada)
SUBMITTED: Saturday, January 07, 2012
Your reply to Ali and the others is convincing somehow, but, you know real well that I was ripped off with OVER THE ROAD. Not only me saying this, but you admitted to the same.
You are an X-Owner-Operator, you know the minimum charges for using a tractor trailer, I am sure, as you have agreed with me, it can not be $15.50 for GTA pickup and delivery, and it can not be $70 for Mississauga to Windsor and leamington. I admit, I got paid for every single delivery made, but at the same time I tell you that I was not paid fairly for 90% of the jobs, and that is why I left.
Your explanation, this happened because you were not arround, is not acceptable. We are dealing with a company called Over The Road, not a person. The new shield "TOM" your company using is not even a man enough to rectify situations and fulfill his promises.
Over all, it was nice meeting and knowing you, you are a good man, my advice to you "do not defend and associate yourself with ripoff people like OVER THE ROAD.", they are the scum-bag of the transportation business.
I am sure that I can get my proper pay through the small claim court, but it is not worth it.
Regards
Amir

Richard Meyers

Ali had a bad taste in his mouth from Kennedy and regardless of what Mr Meyers or any other company could do for him it wouldn't help.
I myself have spoken to companies like Kennedy and realized right off the bat that it wasn't something for me. They gain their business by bringing in men or women who have little or no transportation or driving experience, hook them into buying a vehicle and than offer them very few driving opportunities. They count on the person's lack of knowledge as a key to selling them a truck. I have heard so many horror stories from various people coming in with the same story.
Richard Meyers through his own mistake takes in some of these people, helps them get back on the road, but as I have said they are so damaged by this time that no matter what you do it is sometimes too late. The hole that they are in finanically is so deep that no one can pull them out. And yes after their first cheque if it doesn't add (meet their financial debt) they quit and turn on Mr Meyers. He is their scapegoat for the problems they have fallen into.
Over the Road Transportation does have it's short falls, but when people like Mr Ali use Ripoff as there means of lashing out at an industry that has not been good to them, it is time for him to take on some of his failures himself. He did admit that his problem didn't orginate with Richard Meyers, but as I have pointed out that he is using Richard Meyers and OTR as his scapegoats.
Mr Ali and people like him deserve the right to complain, but go after the people that actually screwed you. How is your new employer? Mr Meyers did settle with you prior to you going to Ripoff.com. You not only used Mr Meyers as your target to get revenge but you also hurt the employees and their families at OTR because of failures in your life. You owe us all an apolgy if you have any class as a human being.

Over the Road (Richard Meyers) NOT A RIPOFF
AUTHOR: Dispatcher - (Canada)
SUBMITTED: Friday, June 10, 2011
I have personally seen Richard fis owner operator's damaged trucks for half the amount of body shop estmates and had them running in half the time. He has co-signed loans for owner operators and paid for their insurance and authorities and even their rent when they have no money because their truck has been down for few weeks or they spent their money foolishly. These are only a few examples of what he has done for owner operators.
I personally am gong through a cancer issue (last 2 years) and the two companies I worked for previously screwed me over and when I told some people I was going to work for Over the Road I was told to beware. Richard has treated me better than anyone. Richard has accepted and worked aound my appointments, chemo sick days and other downtimes while I'm trying to beat this disease.
I say to any owner operator viewing this site that if you provide a good service to the company, you will be looked after and compensated fairly. There are no politics or favouritism when it comes to assigning loads. We have had owner operators working for this group of companies for 25 years and I'm sure if they were getting ripped off or not getting paid they would have left many years ago. The only ones who claim they've been ripped off have done damge to the company or forgot about the contract they signed or most recently do not have the motivation to succeed in this industry.
I want to point out one more present scenario. We had an owner operator, who as far as we know is still on health leave and he is an older man and when most other companes wouldn't hire him due to his age, Richard gave him a chance. I found out he is working for another carrier and we are still paying insurance coverage for him. He has a signed contract and has some custom documents that were not stamped until a week after he crossed. I'm asking you. Do you think we should hold his cheque until the customs issues are settled? Should we charge him for the insrance we paid while he's working for another company? Should we hold him to his contractual obligations? Is he going to file a complaint to ripoff.com against Richard and Over the Road saying he was ripped off????
In closing, remember there are always two sides to every story. Make sure know both sides before making a judgement on Companies. Check it out yourself. For the owner operators who file pathetic, unreal complaints look in the mirror and stop blaming other people for your short falls, bad decisions, and lack of knowlege and or drive to succeed, not to mention read the legal contracts and abide by them. Remember when you screw over companies your also hurting the other employees who make a living there.
Any owner operator who is looking to work for someone and get back what you put in, come and speak to Richard and have a look at our dispatch board and see what good drivers make in a week. Even a rookie can make it in this business with Over the Road if the have motivation, desire to work hard and can follow instructions.

Hey Ali we have talked about Rchard dirt bag Meyers, and compared notes on how. and how much this bastard ripped us off.
I just want to thank you for your post, I wish more people would write because I know of a least a dozen people that he and his company Over the Road Transnsportation Inc. and his other company On the Double Courier have ripped off.
Everyone that comes in those doors gets ripped off, the really sad thing is they (the company)are not just ripping off the driver they are ripping off the drivers family and their livilyhood, what the hell does anyone do to deserve that.
We are all just people trying to earn a living and this dirt bag keeps getting away with it.
I hope you are fighting for your money and continuing to spread the word on Richard Meyers and Over the Road Transportation Inc. and On the Double Courier.
Good luck to everyone and don't give up!
