I have worked with this person and have known her for years. She is not honest and will say and do anything to get what she wants and to make money. She told me to talk a friend of mine into signing over their well trained horse they paid a lot of $$$ for so she could re-home it. I was involved with hauling some owner sign over horses. The ladies husband was dieing of cancer and could no long care for all the horses. She took three horses and three minis, sent one horse back because she told me she could not home something like that and was going to put the horse down.
I took the horse back to the lady, the horse was 20 and had one eye. The poor horse could not adjust to the move, that is all that was wrong with her. So if it not sell able she does not want to deal with it. She had dealing with a rescue to Quarantine their horses. Then over charged them for round bales of hay because two of her friends rescues horses were eating off the same round bales. Told the rescue that the two draft horse ate 5 round bales of hay in 2 1/2 weeks. The rescue ask me to remove the horses, and keep them till we could get them moved.
The two draft horses have been here for 4 days and have only ate 1/2 of a round bale. The truth speaks for it's self. Now she will not talk to me and give me one of my rescues because they claim " I just want that one because it is riding" they are asking $450.00 for it and I got her for free. Just because I helped a real rescue, she tried to cause problems for because she wanted the drafts to re home herself. Be very careful when dealing with this place get everything in writing, and if you sign over a horse please keep track of what they do with it.

As for taking in free horses and making a profit she does not have to ask anyone for horses she gets plenty of calls of people asking her to take their horses. She has no reason or need to pressure anyone into signing over their horses. You yourself told me there is no profit in this rescue by the time you add up feed, vet bills, farrier work but oh now that has changed now. How convenient Marge
Shipping sick horses? You are the one the one that constantly was calling and asking to take this horse, bring that horse. If you believed the horses were not being properly cared for why did you continue to tae over horses including your own personal horses? And if you believe they werent being quarantined right why would you have your horses at the rescue barn and not the boarding barn? Which so everyone out there know Pj Beck has a rescue barn and a boarding barn. The 2 barns and horses in them are kept separate there are special wheel barrows and everything for the rescue barn so there is no cross contamination. There also separate people doing each barn so that they are not touching rescue horses then touching boarded horses I am witness to how much hay those percherons ate. And why would she want them?? She just wanted paid for the ha they ate which in my opinion is 100% acceptable.
As for the name changing from rescue to Haven how does that have anything to do with honesty ?? Lets get real.
Pj Beck horse and pony haven is the best place you could get a horse. Whether it be a rescue or one of her personal horses. Jess is straight forward about what you are getting if there as been anything going on with that horse and if she doesnt think the horse is a good match she will be honest. As a person who bought a horse off of her and boarding it at her barn I am very pleased with the way things are ran there. I would recommend anyone to Pj Beck horse and pony haven. Dont let some crazy person who has a personal vendetta against Jess and her rescue think twice about checking out a horse from there. If you are questioning anything come out and check it out for yourself. Im sure you will be pleased

I don't need to ask people to stand up for me

As to I had horses there. Yes I did had four and also had five that belonged to the "rescue" to fatten up on my farm. Any horse owner knows the cost of fattening up a thin horse. I did not ask for any of my personal rescues to be vetted as I have my own vet I trust. I was pressured into selling the ones I committed. " there are more to save these are taking up space" Now all of the sudden there is vet bills, and one of my horses made all the horses there sick. This goes back to proper quarantining, and proper disinfecting and stripping stall. The pictures they deleted showed a lot of manure in the QT stall they put two new arrivals in, were two that shipped to oceola,pa with snotty noses came out of that same stall. People that have things to hide always fight back the hardest when exposed. All the rebuttals show that very clearly. If you are happy with your rescue from here that is great, just QT it for 30 days min. so you don't end up like this volunteer did.
As far as the cost of feeding and vetting. When you are taking feed from someone to feed their horses you should not post that horse standing in front of a round bale, when third cut hay and senior feed, beet pulp, and hay cubes were bought for this old horse because of her teeth "are soft" according the the "rescue" Then claim two horses ate so much hay when there was four horses eating it, and only charge one person instead of both owners of all four horses. Saving horses is a major expense have been doing it for years. I do not flip horses in a matter of weeks. I keep them till they are up to weight and the feet, teeth, and all the vetting is done, and what ever they need fora health happy life. You can not see what a horse is truly like in a few weeks. Ask questions how long has it been there, talk to the vet, talk to the black smith, as any real rescue will tell you to do your home work, make sure it is health.
Not harassing no one. Stating facts hoping someone does not fall pray to a scam, Dealing horses is dealing horses. I don't need to hide anything, nor do I have a ax to grind. I have a true love for the horse and take very good care of anyone's animal in my care. Having a big heart has cost me a lot dealing with this place. I pay for everything I have and don't expect to get nothing free. Possessions can be replaced but a life can not, horses can not speak but they have a way of telling the truth just ask them. Truth will come out indue time.

SERIOUSLY?

Every rescue, no matter what animal is involved, is expensive to run! There are vet bills, farrier costs, feed, board, and the evaluating that goes into each horse to see what level of care they will require and how experienced of a rider they will need to have. From following the site I have yet to see a horse that I consider to be priced to high. In order to stay afloat, especially in this economy, Jess must sale each horse/pony for enough to cover what she has in them(and considering some of these horses are going for 100$-200$ I don't know how she does it).
I personally have my horse boarded with Jess. The rescue horses are brought into a completely different barn then the borders until she is sure that they are healthy. Anyone with any animal knows that they can become sick at any time and will need vet care. That includes horses! When and if an animal becomes sick, Jess makes sure they are taken care of. Jess herself, helped with my mare when she became ill and saved me a ton of vet bills! If a horse requires more care then Jess can do, then the vet is called in.
Please do not believe anything that is being said about PJ Beck Horse and Pony Haven. There are satisfied people everywhere(including a personal friend of mine) that has adopted animals from this Haven. Go to her page and check out what some of these animals have looked liked before they were rescued, and you will see for your own eyes what this Haven is about! I am very pleased with the care my personal horse receives, and I will continue to volunteer with PJ Beck and try and help Jess make a difference in theses animals lives.

Profit? I have been a horse owner for over twenty years. I've boarded and kept on my own property. Horses are expensive creatures. The horse we got had coggins, shots, and brand new front shoes. The small adoption fee we paid wouldn't have covered these services. Oh and then add in hay, grain, and bedding..plus general maintaining of the farm itself. Where's the profit?
As far as her turning away a horse she didn't think was adoptable, well that's her right. If she took in every horse in need of a home she would become overcrowded very quickly. She has to consider how many horses she already has and how many she thinks will be adopted out in order to maintain a safe environment for the horses to live and be rehabilitated.

My experiences with this rescue.

I have 2 horses from this rescue in my barn. One was adopter by one of my boarders and the other is one I adopted myself. Both came in healthy, had been through a quarantine, and had a current coggins, as well as paperwork showing what vet work had been done. Both were reasonably priced - $200 and $100 respectively - and these prices probably were less what the rescue had spent on each of them. Both horses were healthy and were exactly as they were described as far as temperment, training, suitability, etc. Neither brough any disease into my barn.
I also asked about another horse that was there and was told that she was not what I was looking for in regard to temperment. They were also honest and told me this horses has a health problem that would require medication.
As far as what went on between this group and other people. Hearsay is just that - hearsay. It's not worth discussing unless you were an eyewitness and from what I have witnessed, this is a legit operation that is not out to do anything except survive financially while placing homeless horses - not a bad goal, to my way of thinking.

I don't believe this for one minute

I see nothing wrong with that. Obviously they are feeding, having the vet come out to see each horse, having the person who trims their feet- All this costs money. Also asking for an adoption fee (which from what I've seen is not an outrageous price) does nothing but make sure they are going to a good home. Also it states that she had hauled for this Haven so to me this sounds like who ever wrote this was helping with the haven. Personally this sounds like this was written to try & bad mouth the Haven.
But from what I have seen in person & I follow the page regularly They do keep up on all the horses they find homes for & they even asked me to please keep in touch & to send pictures of our pony. I DONT BELIEVE ANY OF THIS REPORT OF ONE MINUTE SO SAD THAT PEOPLE CANT HELP OUT THE NEEDY WITH OUT BEING BASHED IN SOME WAY. If you want to see a rip off look @ some of the other places that claim to be a rescue (AC$H & SDS- i considered buying one from them to save as well until I read up on them).
This place is wonderful & I have recommended several of my friends to contact them to find their next horse or pony.
Go to their page their are many updates from happy new horse owners :) this is proof that this place is wonderful.
