All I had in my storage were personal papers including drivers license, etc. it was all stolen. The employee told me it was "because I was late". I had gone in and paid and went back and everything was cleaned out. Someone had a copy of the key, etc. and went right on in and took it.

After that I have had major identity theft can't even access my credit report.

Since then I have had reports of the "FBI" or "Government" showing up and slandering me with my personal information that was stolen.

That is not the law in AZ - they have to put it up for auction

#1 UPDATE Employee

So which is it?

AUTHOR: Malignantpoodle - (U.S.A.)

Was your stuff stolen or sold at auction? Your report isn't clear.

Next, Public Storage does not keep a copy of a key for locks used on the property. If you bought the lock at PS, it was sealed. If you brought your own, only you have the key. In either case, PS did not have a key to your unit unless you gave them one.

Third, if PS goes into a unit to sell things at auction, this is a very involved process that requires multiple steps to accomplish. Not an employee, a manager, nor a district manager can just gallivant through the property taking things out of units for which they don't even have the key for in the first place. Auctions are a matter of public record.

Lastly, when and if PS enters a unit in lien, they CUT THE LOCK with bolt cutters. They do not have a key, and even if they did it doesn't matter because if you're locked out of your unit they're not going to open your lock, take your stuff out, and then put your lock back giving you access to your unit.

Common sense deduction and experience with the company and process tells me that one of the following two things are what more than likely happened;

1. You didn't pay your bill and went into lien. You still didn't pay and your unit got sold at auction. The employee at the property that told you that you were late was probably explaining why you had been sold at auction.

2. There was no auction, and someone else that you know had the key to your unit and removed your belongings. When you told PS they wouldn't help you, and your minimal account of the conversation between the employee and yourself was completely wrong. PS likely informed you that that's not their problem.
