On Friday, August 8,2003, I was coaching my 5 year old sons soccer team. As I pulled in the driveway my husband two-wayed me and asked me to please hurry up and come upstairs, that there was a kid selling magazines to win a trip to Cancun. I went upstairs and met the young man. I looked over the list, and questioned the prices. I told Sean that the prices seemed kind of high (I have not bought magazines in a long time, so I trusted him). He told me that subscription costs have rised considerably. He high fived me after every sentence(annoying????). I purchased one magazine(Game Pro) for 25.97, he then stated that with this purchase I will receive on magazine on the list for 3 years free.
My husband is a car buff so I chose Super Chevy. He told me of the 10.00 processing fee. I proceeded to write PMI a check for 35.97. He left satisfied after writing a supposed message to others to bugg off and quoted Pink Floyd from "Off the Wall" (strange???). When my husband and I went outside to let our children play with the other neighborhood kids, he was speaking to another neighbor and very close friend of mine. She and her husband also purchased magazines. Sean continued to tell us that another neighbor of ours who was expecting her second child also purchased subscriptions from him.
For the last day my neighbor and I have had a bad feeling and were going to call the company and cancel. There was no number listed on the receipt. I checked the internet and to my surprise was brought to this web site. My neighbor and I contacted the local police department and the local newspapers, thank god my bank is open on Sundays so I can cancel my check, the next step is to find out how we can stop this company.
I do have a question. What do the smiley faces and stars mean that they put on the receipt. My neighbor had a smiley face by her name, and I have a star by my phone number. Anyone know.
Thank you to everyone who posted rip-off reports. It is nice to have web sites like this.
Oh just a word of advise, the office who took our report said to ask a solicitor for their town permit next time someone tries to sell us anything. Check with your town or city and see if one is required. If so, please start checking the solicitors.
It is up to us to stop these scams.

That magazine scheme has been around for over 50 years. I can not for the life of me, see why anyone would still fall for it. They have been trying to" win tuition" "points for a trip" and many other things.
I live in a very small town of about 5000 people. When anyone comes to the door, I first ask to see their license ( I know the town only gives them to the scouts ) then I tell them that noone ever helped me win a trip anywhere, why should I help them? Then I shut the door. And if tehy don't go away, I call the police. It may sound heartless, but then I am NOT the one who gets ripped off.

It is hard and its not fun all the time but the experience you gain from magcrew is like nothing else. If you can walk into someones house and absolutly convince them of your schpeel, get them to hand over the dough... u can do anything you put your mind to.
It's a buisness and a very lucritive one. I am very excited to get back into it, and wether or not you get the magazines, it is an art to sell mags. Just the experience of traveling to all these cool places meetin all you crazy Jones's is just awsome. The crazy shit ive seen is just incredible from drugs, to sex to shady ass people.
Even though we might be a little bit grimey in our sales pitchs(which is frownd upon by SOME companies, not all) dont we all remember the horrible reputaions car salesman have? Its all the same, a sale is a sale.........
