I was having a party on Friday, May 2nd. I called on Monday, April 28th to ask which shipping option I should select to have the products arrive by Thursday. I was told that 3-day shipping was fine, 2-day to be sure.
I placed my order on Tuesday morning. I decided to go with overnight shipping so I could hang my party decorations on Wednesday night. I selected FedEx Standard Overnight shipping on the checkout form.
I did not receive my package on Wednesday. I called to ask if it had been shipped. I was told that my order was in the computer as regular ground delivery. I did not choose this option, but the rude customer service representative kept insisting that I must have since that was what the computer said. I told her there has been a mistake. I believe the mistake comes from the fact that there are two overnight shipping check boxes on the form, but only one overnight shipping option. One of them must mistakenly select ground shipping. (There is a separate check box for ground shipping which is not near the overnight options...not likely to have clicked the wrong box.)
I still had not received my package on Thursday. I was worried. I got a call around noon from someone at Party Etc. telling me that my shipping would cost $90.00! The shipping charge on the website was $10.95 for handling + $22.50 for overnight. The $90 fee was unexpected and outrageous! My purchases were only $70!!!
I refused to pay $90 for shipping. The salesperson told me that the source of the problem was my pinatas (a $6.99 item), which resulted in the extra shipping charge. I said to forget the pinatas.
The Party Etc. representative called me back and said without the pinatas, the shipping was $65. This was still ridiculously high. Now she told me I had to take out the plastic cups to reduce the charge. Still too high.
We took out the sombreros and the maracas were unavailable in the style I had chosen.
All I had left to order was two strings of chili pepper lights and a blindfold. The lights were $9.95 each and did not cost extra shipping. The blindfold was 50 cents. My total with shipping still came to $49. Ridiculous, but I was desperate...the party was the next day and there wasn't enough time to find them somewhere else.
Friday morning, no shipment.
Finally, get package around 6pm...guests arrive at 7:30pm. No time to hang the lights. The whole order is a waste of time.
I would not have been as upset if I hadn't opened the box and discovered that the lights they sent me were not what I was expecting. They were not the ones pictured on the website. They were ugly and big and plastic and cheesy, nothing like the cute red & green ones I thought I was buying.
Now, the company refuses to give me my money back. I don't want to pay $49 for two strings of lights which are maybe worth $1.50 and that did not arrive in time for my party. I now have to dispute this charge with my credit card. I hope I will be able to get my money back since the item they sent me was wrong.
Take my advice and NEVER ORDER FROM PARTY ETC. Maybe they fill other orders okay, but it is not worth the risk. I was upset for the whole beginning of my party at what happened.
