Penn tech is one of the biggest rip off schools I have ever encountered in my life. Granted they do offer some worthwhile degrees, but almost everybody I know that went there are up to their eyeballs in debt & can't put their degrees to work. The offer degrees in things like construction where employers want people with experience, not degrees & they fail to tell this to young kids fresh out of high school & wet behind the ears who are just looking to better themselves. So they end up getting themselves $30k or more in debt only to make $10 an hour assisting in construction (or whatever other waste of degree they get) until they get the job experience to make good money. Again, some degrees are worth it, but this school needs to counsel these kids & not waste people's time. Like somebody making $10 needs $500 a month in student loans. And maybe tuition wouldn't be so high if they didn't require somebody going to auto mechanics to take a gym class, etc. Just don't forget to pay for your parking pass or else you will be getting parking tickets everyday. I loathe this school.

Penn College is worth the money paid.  However, it's not surprising that you don't have the math necessary to continue on.  There is a complete lack of math.  You are expected to do nothing math-related outside of math classes (at least in my curriculum which is very number-intense).  Anything that seems even the tiniest bit difficult math-wise, the instructors will skip over.  That's because maybe 95% of the students really can't do the math.  So, it's not at all surprising that you don't have the math you need.  BTW, it's discrete, not discreet. 

This reads like a response from an out of state parent not getting the entire story or not being provided the facts through either a failure in translation or miscommunication; either from their child, the College or both.

For full disclosure, I hold two degrees, earned from Penn College of Technology. While attending the College, I worked as a casual-part-time student employee in their network operations department.

The per-credit cost claim from the reporter seems to be within the boundaries of state tuition costs; which it has to be, according to its direct affiliation with The Pennsylvania State University. Both of my diplomas bear the PSU seal and affiliation statement.

As for the college-wannabe statement; this is not an objective stance. All full Professorships are held by MS/PhD earners. There are adjunct faculty and staff with lesser degree levels. However, they mainly run the laboratory instruction and practical application. I cannot attest to the complete makeup of the college staff and faculty, but from viral marketing, there have been links with the invention of cellular technology, defense agency patents and such. As well, there are a few professors of who I have befriended that have ties with IBM research and development. There's too much information on all that I know of the faculty to provide here in this forum. But for the vocational aspect, the College was, at a length of time, a Community College. PCT contains perhaps the largest Automotive Educational Facility, an Earth Science Facility, an Advanced Technology and Health Sciences Facility, and Industrial Automation Facility, a Workforce Development Facility, a very large, very new library called the Roger Madigan Library; to name a few.

Funding; call the bursar, registrar and admissions office. There are caveats for full or partial refund of tuition costs. Application for financial aide is NOT a College specific creature. PHEAA, AES and other potential sources of financial aide are obtained through the FAFSA which is an Federal Application which all students apply through. These applications have to be completed well in advance of the following semester. For the Fall/Spring semester, February/March is when the FAFSA should be completed at the latest. Determination will cover the year's expenses.

Tuition costs: $418.00/Semester Credit + Room/Board, Meal... and such; from the website http://www.pct.edu, is $23,520 for the academic year, based on 15 credits per semester.

Harvard lists $52,650 per academic year. This does not list how the tuition is divided, but I imagine that it's an instruction hour basis.

Please provide the definition for a real college if you want a comparison of PCT with it.

Lastly, what I received from attending this College, which I find the most important, is a reduced class size in comparison to the 300 student/auditorium class environment from a 'real' college/university (PCT is at most 40 students/Professor, Averaging 30). This was priceless and allowed for, sometimes, one-on-one interaction with the Professor.

My Bachelors of Science and Associates of Applied Science degrees are acreditied nationally. Applying for an M.S. or PhD curriculuum will not be a problem, except for that I did not minor in Math and will have to take discreet mathematics (one class) to qualify for my degree field.

I learned how to process applications for financial aide in the appropriate manner and at the appropriate times quickly. The system is dictated by a higher governing body.

It's unfortunate that you've experienced a learning curve on college admission and financial aide responsibility; but, it is offensive to take this experience and use it to state that the College is a fake. This demeans me and the thousands of individuals who have earned their degrees from this institution.
